Krum residents, with early voting beginning tomorrow, you have the opportunity to vote on whether to extend the city’s Crime Control & Prevention District (CCPD), a program in place for approximately the last 10 years.
Here’s a simple breakdown of what this means:
A Crime Control & Prevention District is a funding mechanism allowed under Texas law that uses a dedicated portion of sales tax (1/4-cent) to support public safety efforts with crime prevention programs, investigation services, police staffing, and equipment.
Voters are being asked whether to continue the existing CCPD. State law requires voter approval to extend it.
Would taxes change?
Property tax rates would remain unchanged
It is not a new tax - the proposal would continue the current 1/4-cent sales tax used for the CCPD
It does not increase the current sales tax rate
The annual CCPD budget is reviewed and approved by the CCPD board. The budget is then presented to the City Council for final approval.
Here is a general overview of the CCPD budget:
• Funding for a part-time Evidence Technician
• Funding for police vehicles
• Crime prevention programs
• Modern law enforcement equipment and technology
