🔥 Help Keep Our Community Safe from Wildfires 🔥

Right now, the Texas A&M Forest Service, TPWD first responders, and local agencies are responding to 10 active wildfires across Texas... over 53,000 acres burned and counting. This number doesn’t include the many thousands of acres fires have already destroyed that local, county, and volunteer departments have worked hard to contain.

Check your county’s burn restrictions and avoid or postpone outdoor burning until weather conditions improve.

If you see smoke or a fire, report it immediately. Don’t assume someone else already has.

With multiple wildfires burning, our first responders are working nonstop. We can support them by doing our part to prevent new fires.

🔥Wildfire Conditions for Sunday, August 16 - Tuesday, August 18, 2026 🔥

Hot, dry, and windy conditions are creating an increased wildfire risk across Texas. With temperatures exceeding 100°F, relative humidity dropping as low as 20-25%, and surface fuels becoming critically dry, even a small spark can quickly become a fast-moving wildfire.

As drought conditions continue to expand and dry fuels become more widespread, the potential for fires that are difficult to control is increasing. Firefighters are also facing longer and more resource-intensive suppression and mop-up efforts due to the persistent dry conditions.

✅ Stay aware of current weather and fire danger conditions.
✅ Be prepared with a defensible space around your home and an emergency plan for your family.
✅ Stay informed by monitoring local forecasts, burn bans, and wildfire alerts.
✅ Avoid activities that could spark a fire, including welding, outdoor burning, or mowing during the hottest and driest parts of the day.

Wildfire prevention starts with all of us. By taking precautions and staying vigilant as conditions change, we can help protect our families, property, first responders, and communities.

With El Niño conditions developed and strengthening, "flash drought" or the rapid intensification of drought, has started. This will likely support increased wildfire activity into early fall in some parts of the state.

El Niño conditions don’t always produce the same outcome; however, 2015 and 2023, both strong El Niño years, brought periods of rapidly developed drought and increased wildfire activity to parts of the state.

Between July 1 and October 31, 2015, Texas A&M Forest Service responded to 667 wildfires that burned 98,940 acres. During the same period in 2023, we responded to 1,009 wildfires that burned 111,316 acres.

This year is showing some similarities to those previous patterns, with increasing drought and wildfire occurrence. Our Predictive Services department is closely monitoring weather, drought and vegetation, as these trending conditions can change.

🔥 BOSQUE COUNTY BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥
As of 8/17/2026 @ 9:22am for 90days from this date and time issuance.
The Bosque County Commissioners Court has placed Bosque County under a Burn Ban due to the continued hot, dry conditions and increased fire danger.
🚫 Outdoor burning is prohibited in the unincorporated areas of Bosque County.
DO NOT BURN:
🔥 Brush or brush piles
🔥 Leaves, grass, or yard debris
🔥 Trash or household waste
🔥 Other outdoor debris or combustible material
⚠️ PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION
Even activities that are not specifically prohibited by the burn ban can start a wildfire under our current conditions. Please:
• Secure trailer chains and wires so they do not drag and create sparks.
• Properly dispose of ci******es — never throw them out of a vehicle window.
• Use extra caution when welding, grinding, mowing dry grass, or operating equipment that could create sparks.
Our vegetation is extremely dry, and with temperatures exceeding 100°F, it does not take much for a small spark to become a rapidly spreading fire.
🚒 Please remember that the majority of our firefighters in Bosque County are VOLUNTEERS. Every preventable fire puts these men and women, our residents, livestock, homes, and property at unnecessary risk.

At Gov. Abbott’s direction, TDEM has activated additional state wildfire response resources ahead of increased fire danger.

Texans are urged to implement wildfire prevention measures and follow instructions from local officials.

Another busy day for our crew when we were called for mutual aid to a fire at Fossil Rim this afternoon. Brazos Point responded with Brush 1206 and Tanker 1202 . Firefighter Phillips pictured using one of the new nozzles purchased with our equipment grant . After clearing from that run and topping off with fuel in Glen Rose , we were called again to assist Somervell County for a structure fire on 411. Brush 1206 was only 3 minutes away when the call was dispatched and responded. Upon arrival Brush 1206 found a fast moving grass fire and 2 small out buildings fully engulfed and within minutes ,had the fire knocked down saving the barn, a truck and trailer as well the house. Our Engine 1203 , as well as 3 other Bosque County departments , Kopperl, Walnut Springs and Meridian arrived shortly after and assisted mopping up the remaining fire. Only the 2 outbuildings were lost .
