Location: Mill Bay Beach

Reason: Emergency Sewer Force Main Break

The City of Kodiak Public Works Department is responding to an emergency sewer force main break resulting in a sewer spill at Mill Bay Beach.

• Caution: Swimming May Cause Illness

• Water contact and ingestion of water in this location may be a health risk due to elevated levels of bacteria

• Swallowing contaminated water may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever, and contact may lead to ear ache or skin rashes.

• Wash after contact with water, and avoid swallowing it or swimming

• Fish and other seafood or plants harvested should be rinsed in clean water and cooked before eating.

• Water quality will continue to be monitored. For more information about the results of sampling please contact:

Time: 12:00 p.m.

Location: 4152–4050 East Rezanof Drive

Reason: Emergency Sewer Force Main Break

The City of Kodiak Public Works Department is responding to an emergency sewer force main break in the area of 4152–4050 East Rezanof Drive.

Due to the nature of this emergency, the roadway will be temporarily closed to one lane to allow Public Works crews and equipment to safely access the affected area and complete the necessary repairs.

Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes whenever possible. Access to nearby driveways and properties may be temporarily affected while emergency work is underway. Our crews will work directly with affected residents to maintain reasonable access whenever possible.

At this time, crews are working to assess the damage, make the necessary repairs, and restore the roadway as quickly and safely as possible. Please be patient and allow our crews the time and space needed to resolve this issue.

Please use extreme caution near the work area and be mindful of workers, heavy equipment, traffic control personnel, and signage.

Your safety—and the safety of our crews—is our top priority.

WATER SERVICE LEAK

Location: 2949 Spruce Cape Road

The City of Kodiak Public Works Department will be addressing a Water Leak on Spruce Cape Road on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 11:45 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Public Works Department was notified today of a water service leak that has been discovered in the area.

Public Works crews are assessing the situation and will be working to address the leak as quickly as possible. Residents and businesses in the affected area may experience intermittent water service or temporary interruptions while repairs are being completed.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while our crews work to restore and maintain reliable water service.

NOTICE OF ONE-LANE CLOSURE

Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2026- Thursday, August 27, 2026

Time: 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m Wednesday, August 26; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026

Location: Sharatin Road, between 3710 Sharatin Road and 3700 Sharatin Road

The Public Works Department will be conducting a two-day sewer service installation project along the above-referenced section of Sharatin Road.

During the project, the roadway will remain open to traffic, but may be reduced to one lane at times to allow crews and equipment to safely complete the work. Drivers should expect temporary delays and are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the construction area.

If this work temporarily affects access to or from your driveway, please make the necessary arrangements ahead of time. Our crew will work directly with residents whose driveways are impacted to maintain reasonable access whenever possible.

No utility service interruptions are expected during this project. Water, sewer, and other utility services are anticipated to remain in service throughout the work.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation while this improvement project is completed. Please use caution near the construction zone and be mindful of workers, equipment, flaggers, and signage.

SIDEWALK CLOSURE - WEATHER DEPENDENT

Time: Beginning at 4:00 a.m.

Location: 209 Thorsheim Street (McDonald’s)

The City of Kodiak Public Works Department will begin a sidewalk repaving project along the above section of Thorsheim Street. Work is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 4:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The sidewalk will be closed beginning Thursday, August 20, 2026, and will remain closed until further notice while the repaving project is underway.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this improvement project. Please use caution near construction zones and be mindful of workers, equipment, flaggers, signage, and any designated pedestrian detours. Please follow all posted signs and instructions.
