🎧 Turn the volume up! There’s something satisfying about freshly finished concrete.

Check out this concrete ASMR from the soon-to-be-completed James White Parkway Greenway and watch progress in action. From fresh concrete to a smoother path ahead, this project is helping connect our community with more opportunities to walk, bike, and enjoy the outdoors. 🚧➡️🚴🏃🏾‍♀️🥾

Behind every great greenway is a dedicated team working to build a better Knoxville. Thank you to our Public Service Department crews and project partners for helping create safer, more connected spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Today, we mark the 30th anniversary of the groundbreaking of Safety City (June 17, 1996). A milestone that reflects a vision rooted in education, safety, and community.

From the very beginning, Safety City was created to “provide an early educational program for elementary school children… teaching them about traffic, pedestrian, and bicycle safety,” and to serve as “a place where children can learn to look out for themselves through explanation, demonstration, and practice.”

Thirty years later, that mission continues to make a lasting impact on generations of young learners in our community.

Take a look back at these moments from the beginning of Safety City! 👇
