2 more of our KFD members graduated from CIT training. The training course lasts around 40 hours and focuses on de-escalation tactics, as well as responding to people in crisis. Good job Capt. Medders and Capt. Speights.

Today, instead of a throwback Thursday, we are mourning the loss of one of Knoxville's longest retired firefighters - Deputy Chief Luther Bradley, who passed away this week at 98 years of age. Chief Bradley was one of Knoxville's first black firefighters, hired in 1952 and promoted over the years to the rank of Deputy Chief-Fire Marshal (1985), and retired after 36 years of service to the citizens of Knoxville in 1988. Many of us at KFD were fortunate to know Chief Bradley, and his legacy will live on in our hearts. Chief Bradley didn't likely know it at the time, but he opened many doors for future firefighters in Knoxville, and we will always be grateful.
