Whitehead was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he graduated from Carter High School before entering the United States Marine Corps to fight in Vietnam. He earned is Business degree in business administration from Knoxville Business College and his appraisal certification from the International Association of Assessing Officers. His first job out of the Marine Corps was in the Knox County Property Assessor’s office where he worked until his election as Knox County Property Assessor from 2000-2008. Following his public service, John has helped Knox County property owners with their appeals. John has acquired a lifetime of experience and service in and with the property assessor’s office over his career. Election Day is May 5th and the people of Knox County deserve a Clerk who is fully focused on the job!

If elected, I will be at work every day, on time, ready to serve the public. I believe in leading by example. I will not ask employees to do something that I am not willing to do myself.

This office handles important records, transactions, and services that affect families, businesses, and our community. It is not a part time responsibility. It is not a side job.
It requires leadership, oversight, and daily attention.

Throughout my career, I have managed budgets responsibly, followed ethical standards, and maintained compliance with state requirements. I will bring that same discipline and accountability to the Clerk’s office.

Knox County deserves a full time Clerk with a full time commitment.
