While we can never fully understand the weight of the steps they took, we climb to honor their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to others.

Labor Day is a time to honor the courage and dedication of American firefighters who have faced adversity to secure better and safer working conditions for all. The International Association of Firefighters held its first convention on February 28, 1918, in Washington D.C.

There, thirty-six delegates from twenty-four locals came together. The birth of our Union marked the beginning of a brotherhood that has stood strong for over a century. Everything we have today—safer gear, job stability, fair wages, and manageable work hours—was made possible by those who came before us and fought for these rights.

Local 4900 is deeply grateful for the perseverance of our Union and is committed to carrying forward the pursuit of a stronger, safer fire service for all.

Today marks a historic day for the firefighters of Karns.
Our members voted to be represented by IAFF Local 4900, a milestone decades in the making for this department. This wasn't a vote against anyone. It was a vote for a real seat at the table, for consistency, and for a formal voice in the decisions that affect our work and this community we serve.

We're proud of our members who showed up, asked hard questions, and made this decision together. And we're looking forward to sitting down with the department to build something that's good for our firefighters and good for Karns for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way, our members, our families, Knoxville Local 65, the 14th district, and the International Association of Fire Fighters. We couldn't have pulled this off without the resounding support from all of you.

Local 4900 would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Jordan family for generously dropping off food for the crews at Hardin Valley Station 2 today.
