Every year CISV Smoky Mountain gathers to fold 1,000 cranes, a tradition called Senbazuru in Japan. Each crane carries a wish for peace, inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki, who began folding cranes while battling leukemia after the bombing of Hiroshima.

Join us anytime between 10-5 on September 19th at Union Avenue Books as we help OREPA fold peace cranes.

For 75 years, CISV has treated these as skills you can learn, because they are.

What actually happens at a CISV programme? 🤔
It looks like games, songs and camp life. But underneath, something serious is going on: children from around the world learning to communicate across language, navigate difference, and see conflict as something you can work through together.
We call it peace education. They just call it the best summer of their lives.

Each year our chapter gathers donations for Community Shares’ Circle of Change Awards ceremony. We are one of their member organizations and we get points for our participation. This event is how we get most of the points for the year. If you have something to donate, please reach out asap.
