This morning, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we paused to honor those who lost their lives, the countless first responders who ran headlong into danger following the attacks, and all of the families that were forever changed on September 11, 2001.

Today, 25 years later, we also remember those who have ties to Knoxville who are missed so very much by loved ones, Tony Karnes, Timothy Haviland, Rob Lenoir, Jason Cane and Keith Tinder.

We reflect on 9/11 and find inspiration in the collective courage, unity, strength and love that was demonstrated in the days that followed.

We honor the fallen and thank those who continue to carry their memory forward. Together, we will never forget.

If you are free tomorrow morning, please join us as we remember those who lost their lives related to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. We will hold a short memorial to remember the 25th anniversary which will be held on the Delaney Plaza at Covenant Health Park honoring Fire Departments, Police Departments and families of those who lost loved ones. S.O.U.L.S Youth Choir will start at 8:30am with the ceremony starting shortly after.

Free parking is available for this memorial in the South Jackson Parking Lot located at 300 E. Jackson Ave

A quarter century is long enough that a whole generation has no memory of that morning, and short enough that the people who lived it still feel it. This is how Knoxville marks it: not with a moment of silence, but with a whole evening of music on the Performance Lawn.

Cruz Contreras & The Black Lillies headline, with Jill Andrews, Hannah Marie Kelley, Con Hunley, Erick Baker, and Jeanine Fuller & The True Funk Souldiers. Hosted by Sterl the Pearl.

The evening is intentionally designed as a sequence of shared moments, guiding attendees from reflection to recognition to celebration. Guests will move through:

• A Memorial Zone featuring the Survivor Tree Tribute and the 343 Remembrance Wall — an interactive tribute honoring every firefighter and policeman lost at Ground Zero
• An Honor Guard Presentation and Chaplain Invocation
• A formal First Responder Recognition Ceremony
• A Community Moment of Remembrance
• A live concert closing the evening on a note of unity and hope

Remember: This event is taking place at Covenant Health Park.

Join us at Covenant Health Park this Friday at 8:30 a.m. to observe the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

The ceremony will begin around 8:30 a.m., and Knoxville Police Department Chaplain Pam Neal will officially welcome everyone at 8:42 a.m. The ceremony will include a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. At the same time, bells will toll to mark the time hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

The ceremony will include a formal flag procession down Jackson Avenue with bagpipes and the S.O.U.L.S. Youth Choir. KFD Chaplain Paul Trumpore will deliver the benediction.

Following the memorial ceremony, the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will take place inside the stadium to honor the 343 firefighters who gave their lives at the World Trade Center 25 years ago.

Our community's celebration of Dolly Parton continues with a parade hosted by Cattywampus Puppet Council this Friday, Sept. 4. Make plans to join us for this and other First Friday celebrations downtown and be aware of the following parade-related road closures from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.:

- Main Street between Gay & Walnut streets
- Wall Ave between Gay & Walnut streets

The parade will step off at 7 p.m. and follow Main to Walnut to Cumberland to Market Street and straight onto Market Square and the Dolly mural in Strong Alley. Please parade safely and, if you are driving, be aware of many pedestrians in the streets and temporary road closures.
