Not all water leaks are visible on the surface. That’s why HPUD uses acoustical leak detection technology to help locate hidden water line leaks and breaks throughout the system.
Using specialized equipment, crews can “listen” for the sound vibrations created by water escaping underground pipes. This technology helps pinpoint leaks more accurately- even before major water loss or surface damage occurs. By finding leaks faster, we can reduce water loss, minimize service interruptions, limit unnecessary digging, and improve system efficiency and reliability.
It’s one more way we’re investing in proactive infrastructure maintenance to better serve our community.

School’s out, summer is here, and we’ve had a great time engaging with so many students as the school year wrapped up! From Farm Day fun and hands-on water filter lessons to classroom visits and providing water coolers and snow cones, it’s been wonderful connecting with schools across our community.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with educators and students to share the importance of water, the environment, and community service in fun and meaningful ways. Thank you to all the schools, teachers, and students who welcomed us this year. We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and refreshing summer break!

Twenty-five years ago, many customers experienced low water pressure- or even no water at all during the summer months. At the same time, portions of the wastewater system were struggling to meet state permit requirements. Aging infrastructure and limited system capacity created major challenges for a growing community.
Today, thanks to years of investment and improvements, our award-winning water and wastewater systems are stronger, more reliable, and delivering better service and water quality for the community we serve.
Your utility bill has helped make these critical improvements possible by supporting infrastructure upgrades that protect public health, improve reliability, and prepare the system for future generations.

The East Wolf Valley Water System Improvement Project is slated to begin in June. This project will consist of approximately 11,500 linear feet of 6-inch ductile iron pipe. This waterline replacement project is targeting a section of PVC waterline on East Wolf Valley drive that is failing due to age. The existing waterline running along Wolf Valley Road is under the edge of the pavement. Each time the existing line breaks, the road is damaged and asphalt repairs are becoming costly. Breaks along this section have become more significant over the past two years. The cost of this project is $1.8 million. The Contractor is Precision Construction Solutions, Inc.

Recently, our team spent the day removing litter from a section of Beaver Creek as part of the Adopt A Stream program with Keep Knoxville Beautiful. Protecting our waterways goes beyond treatment plants and infrastructure- it also means helping keep litter and pollution out of the streams that flow through our community every day. We’re proud to support efforts that help keep our community and environment clean.
