As usual, our Sharks are doing an amazing job demonstrating safety, respect, responsibility, and kindness 💙🦈

We’re celebrating a group of students who are making an impact on our school through their actions each day. Some of our Safety Patrollers are taking their roles seriously, helping keep our hallways safe and orderly. One student continues to be a bright light, bringing joy wherever they go. Others have shown kindness by speaking up to help a friend or offering support when someone was struggling. One student showed true character by helping someone they don’t always get along with. Another took responsibility by cleaning up a mess without being asked. And several students are showing meaningful growth as they become more independent and take ownership of their learning.

These are the kinds of choices that make our school stronger. These students lead by example, lift others up, and show what it looks like to do the right thing, even when they think no one is watching.

We’re so proud of our Sharks! Keep it up! 👏

It’s almost time for our Sharks to shine! ✨
To help your family plan, here is Amherst’s TCAP testing schedule for Grades 3-5.
(Please note: each school follows its own testing schedule. This applies to Amherst only.)

Students should arrive to school on time on testing days so they can start their morning feeling calm, confident, and ready to do their best. 💙

Testing Dates:
📅 April 16 – ELA Subtest 1
📅 April 20 – ELA Subtests 2 & 3
📅 April 21 – ELA Subtest 4
📅 April 23 – Math Subtest 1
📅 April 24 – Math Subtests 2 & 3
📅 April 27 – Science
• Grades 3-4: Subtest 1
• Grade 5: Subtests 1 & 2

📌 Important Reminders
• April 17 & April 22 are regular school days (with ELA make-up testing as needed)
• Additional make-up testing begins April 28
• Please avoid late arrivals or morning appointments on testing days when possible

Sharing this for any Amherst families looking for something fun to do with their kids!

🧡 Big Orange Field Day
📅 Saturday, May 2 | 10:00 AM–1:00 PM
📍 University of Tennessee (1914 Andy Holt Ave)

This is a free, inclusive event for students in Pre-K through 12th grade, with a variety of activities designed for all abilities. It’s a great chance for kids to be active, connect with others, and just have a really fun day.

Everything is planned by UT’s Recreational Therapy program in collaboration with local organizations, so activities are thoughtfully designed to be safe, engaging, and accessible for everyone.

Our Sharks are doing an amazing job showing us all what it means to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind 💙🦈

Our staff has recently recognized students for working hard and making gains in their learning, stepping up as leaders, and making thoughtful choices throughout the day. From helping classmates who need support to taking responsibility and setting a positive example, they are showing us what it means to be good leaders.

We’re especially proud of the kindness and respect being shown to others. Looking out for one another, staying focused, and doing the right thing, even when it’s not easy... that’s the kind of community we strive to build at Amherst.

Every week, a few Amherst students earn the chance to pick out a book as a reward for positive behavior, and it’s one of their favorite things.

As you can see, we’re getting a little low. If you’d like to donate a book or two, we’ve just updated our Amazon Wishlist with a mix of classics and new favorites. Books can be shipped directly to the school.
