KPD investigating shooting outside of afterhours club on N. Broadway

----

Knoxville Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a shooting that happened early Saturday morning outside of an afterhours club on Broadway.

At just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, KPD officers responded to the VIP Lounge at 2314 N. Broadway. Officers arrived on scene and located a gunshot victim on the sidewalk near the entrance to the club. The victim, a 26-year-old man, was transported to the UT Medical Center for treatment. At last report, the victim was in critical but stable condition.

Responding officers detained and questioned multiple potential witnesses at the scene. However, the circumstances leading to and surrounding the shooting remain unclear at this time, and a suspect has not been arrested or charged.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed or with information regarding the shooting to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 877-363-8477. Tipsters can be eligible to receive a cash reward.

At around 1 p.m. today, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the Walmart at 7420 Chapman Highway on a report that a toddler was left in an unoccupied vehicle.

The child, a three-year old boy, was removed from the vehicle and evaluated on scene by responding AMR personnel. The child was taken to Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital for further evaluation and is expected to be ok.

Responding officers and Special Crimes Unit detectives located the guardian, the child’s aunt, and charged her with child neglect following further investigation at the scene.

As the summer months approach, the Knoxville Police Department strongly urges parents and guardians to never leave a child alone in a parked vehicle for any amount of time. Even on a mild day with the windows down, it can take just minutes for the interior temperature of a car to reach dangerous, potentially life-threatening levels.

KPD to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint on June 26

----

The Knoxville Police Department will conduct its next sobriety checkpoint on Friday, June 26.

KPD officers will staff the checkpoint, which will be set up on Central Avenue Pike.

The purpose of the sobriety checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, prevent serious or fatal crashes, and increase public awareness of the consequences of driving while under the influence.

During the checkpoint, officers will check motorists for signs of alcohol or drug impairment, which possibly contributed to at least seven fatal crashes that happened in Knoxville in 2025.

In 2022, the KPD acquired a DUI checkpoint trailer through the Tennessee High Safety Office (TNHSO) Traffic Services grant at no cost to Knoxville taxpayers that will be used during the upcoming sobriety checkpoint.

KPD conducted its last Sobriety Checkpoint on Friday, June 5 in the 8200 block of Kingston Pike, which resulted in two DUI arrests.

The Knoxville Police Department reminds motorists to always practice safe driving habits in all situations. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, buckle up, reduce distractions, pay attention to the road, and never drive while under the influence.
