At KYD, we believe Pride is a protest, an act of community care, and an ongoing fight for liberation.

Our June calendar is absolutely packed with ways to protect our community and build progressive power. From standing up for free speech at the Board of Education to packing local government rooms to say NO to AI, we need your voice in the room.

Whether you want to join us for Coffee and Canvassing, come dressed as an ogre at the Data Center Advocacy Night, or sing your heart out at the Post-Pride Karaoke Hangout, there is a place for you here.

What a night! Coalition Cocktails reminded us exactly what community care looks like in Tennessee.

Together, we:�• Raised over $1,000 for Mountain Access Brigade’s Fund-a-Thon�• Collected 48 emergency contraceptives for KAJA’s community kits�• Gathered nearly $1,000 worth of period products for neighbors in need�• Packed 30 pregnancy loss kits�• Packed condoms + folded zines for KAJA’s free community handouts

Most importantly, we built relationships. We connected with three incredible local organizations doing life-saving work across East Tennessee, and we’re so excited to continue building meaningful partnerships moving forward.

It was powerful to share space, ideas, and community with so many organizers, advocates, and neighbors committed to reproductive justice. In a state actively trying to strip away bodily autonomy, nights like this matter. Community matters. Coalition matters. Care matters.

A massive thank you to KAJA, Thrive, Mountain Access Brigade, Fly By Night, every volunteer, donor, organizer, and every single person who showed up under the disco ball with us.

Tennessee women are fierce - and this movement is only growing.

We showed up so you know what’s happening in our county.

The May Commission meeting was a marathon of high-stakes votes and procedural shifts. From blocking culture wars to tackling the data center threat, here is what we learned: Showing up matters.

We witnessed how a unified community can stop a smear campaign, and how a failure to work across the aisle can completely sink a bad ordinance when just one seat is empty.

What’s next? The Money.

This was just the warmup. We are heading straight into Budget Season, and we need you in the room. Mayor Jacobs has officially presented the proposed County Budget and the Commission has been holding heavy, intensive budget workshops - deciding exactly where your tax dollars go.

If you want to see our community's actual values funded rather than political side-shows, you have to be part of the process. Join the Observer Corps and help us keep Knox County transparent on Mobilize.

They say young people don’t show up, but in just two months since launching Knox Young Dems, our members have been out here doing the actual, messy, grassroots work. We are a community-first, bottom-up organization, and the simple truth is the more members we have, the more massive the impact we can make.

Looking ahead, we aren't slowing down. We are launching our semester-style educational book club, continuing our civic skills trainings, stepping up our policy advocacy, and actively supporting local candidates. We are planning our own candidate forums, training campaign volunteers, and laying the groundwork to have a major hand in candidate recruitment for the 2027 and 2028 cycles - all while prioritizing community building with other local organizations to provide the support they need.

We are here to build a different kind of Democratic party from the inside out. We get nowhere by complaining without action, so if you're ready to be a doer instead of just a spectator, this is your sign to join us.

Governor Bill Lee has called a special session for May 5th to push through redistricting maps that would eliminate the only Democratic district in Tennessee. This isn’t just about party lines; it’s about gerrymandering away our right to a fair voice.

2. Tell them: “Vote NO on the redistricting plan. Protect our representation.”
