The Center for Children's and Young Adult Literature was newly sponsored by the School of information Sciences College of Communication and Information in 2008. A new Board was assembled with the ambition to create new initiatives, such as a Friends group. In 2009, the Center celebrated its tenth anniversary with the prestigious co-hosting of the Arbuthnot Lecturer, Walter Dean Myers, at the Child

ren's Defense Fund's Alex Haley Farm and a presentation by illustrator Christopher Myers. The Center works to promote the use of literature in the education and lives of children and young adults by providing workshops for teachers and librarians and sponsoring talks by authors and illustrators which are open to the public.
