EDIT: Date changed to March 3rd. Time and location to remain the same.
The agenda and legal notice for the upcoming Starke County Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) meeting have been published.
We are informing the public that three petitions originally heard on February 11, 2026, have been rescheduled for a new public hearing.
🗓 New Hearing Date: Tuesday, March 3, 2026 ⏰ Time: 5:30 PM 📍 Location: Starke County Government Building – Annex 1 Meeting Room
Why are these being re-heard?
To ensure full compliance with Indiana statutory notice requirements, the Board will formally vacate any action taken on February 11 and re-hear the petitions. While physical postings and certified mailings to neighbors were completed properly, a procedural defect occurred regarding the required newspaper publication.
Our department is committed to ensuring every land-use decision is legally sound and that the public's right to notice is fully protected.
The following petitions will be heard:
BZA Petition (Patrick): Use Variance regarding a second dwelling/undersized structure in an A-R zone.
BZA Petition (Keiper): Variance for an accessory structure for 4-H animals on a parcel without a primary residence.
BZA Petition (Rhode): Variance for reduced setbacks on an accessory structure.
All interested persons are invited to attend and be heard. Written comments may also be submitted to the Planning Commission Office prior to the hearing.
