National Police Week

Today and every day, we thank the men and women of the Knightstown Police Department for serving our community with professionalism, integrity, and dedication.

Your work often goes unseen — long hours, missed holidays, difficult calls, and constant commitment to keeping others safe.

Also, thank you for continuing the town tradition of sitting in places nobody ever expects until it’s too late. 😉😉😉

We appreciate everything you do for our community.

🚒 New Engine 22 🚒

Knightstown Fire Department is proud to announce the addition of our new 2025 Spartan FC-94 Engine 22 to the fleet.

This apparatus is equipped with a 1500 GPM pump and a 1000-gallon water tank, enhancing our ability to respond effectively and safely to emergencies throughout our community.

Engine 22 replaces our former 1985 Ford Engine 22, marking a significant upgrade in reliability, capability, and firefighter safety.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the following for making this possible:
• The Fire Board for their continued support and generosity
• Our community for always supporting our department
• Our truck committee for their work in bringing this apparatus to our fleet
• Hoosier Fire Equipment, Inc. for their assistance with the purchase of this truck

We look forward to placing Engine 22 into service and continuing to serve the residents of Knightstown and the surrounding area.

🚨 We will be announcing details for a push-in ceremony in the near future. We look forward to sharing this with our community.

🚨 Bridge Strike Reminder 🚨

Crews responded to a vehicle that struck an overpass due to clearance issues. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, but the situation could have been much worse.

These incidents are 100% preventable.

⚠️ Know your height before you drive.
⚠️ Pay attention to posted clearance signs.
⚠️ Plan your route—especially with large farm equipment, trucks, or trailers.

Overpasses don’t move—and even being off by a few inches can cause major damage, road closures, and put lives at risk.

We urge all drivers, especially those operating oversized or agricultural equipment, to take a few extra seconds to double-check your clearance before traveling under bridges.

Stay safe. Slow down. Know your height.

Earlier today at 12:32 PM, Knightstown Wayne Township Fire Department was dispatched to the 9000 block of W County Road 550 South for a report of a large amount of black smoke in the area.

Crews arrived to find a brush pile on fire along a wooded tree line, which had begun to spread into the surrounding woods and nearby field. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent further spread.

We were assisted on scene by:
• Charlottesville Volunteer Fire Department
• Shirley Volunteer Fire Department

No structures were threatened during the incident.

🚨 IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER 🚨

While we have received some rain recently, conditions remain dry and windy, which can cause fires to spread rapidly and unpredictably.

• Avoid burning during windy conditions
• Never burn tires or other hazardous materials
• Always have a water source or means to control the fire nearby
• Keep fires attended at all times

What may seem like a controlled burn can quickly turn into a dangerous situation.

🚒 Training Night
Tonight our members worked on CPR skills along with downed firefighter CPR scenarios. These hands-on drills prepare us for the moments we hope never happen — but train for anyway.
We train hard to protect our community, and just as importantly, to protect each other. Proud of the dedication shown by everyone tonight.
