Needs Request!
The Klickitat Fire Department is looking for donations of three medium-large sized hard-sided coolers for storage of beverages and food supplies when we get deployed on fires. We often work long and sometimes overnight shifts, and having cold beverages handy is invaluable. We'd obviously love some YETI, RTIC, or similar coolers, but any donation would be appreciated. Thank you!

Many thanks to the Goldendale Fire Department for originally writing this up for one of our beloved firefighters. We are happy to reshare it here.
Family stands together—especially in the fire service.
Today, the Klickitat Fire Department is asking our community to rally behind one of our firefighters who has spent over 15 years protecting us and our neighbors.
One of our volunteer firefighters is currently facing his toughest battle yet: he is in need of a heart surgery and a long recovery ahead. While he is sidelined, his wife—a powerhouse in our local emergency services—continues to serve as a firefighter, EMT, and volunteers her time to collaborate across all 15 fire districts in Klickitat County. Her dedication to our entire county has never wavered, even while navigating this incredibly difficult time for her family.
It’s our turn to have their backs. We are asking our Klickitat community, neighbors, and friends across the county to help with the mounting medical and travel expenses for this long journey ahead. No donation is too small, and every share helps.

Please see the below Flood Watch notice shared by the Klickitat County Sheriff's Office, originating from the National Weather Service (NWS), in effect from 07:40 on Friday, 12/19, through 04:30 on Saturday, 12/20.

Klickitat Fire Dist. #12 is aware of this Flood Watch (see the NWS definitions below distinguishing between a Watch, an Advisory, and a Warning) and has been in communication with the Klickitat County Emergency Management Team. In the event of a flood incident that may threaten to reach residences within Fire District #12, the fire department will be working with the county Emergency Management Team to initiate sandbag deployment efforts. At this point in time, that action is not yet warranted.

As flood waters have the possibility of covering portions of Hwy 142, the most important take-away is this: TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN! Do not attempt to drive through flood waters, regardless of how deep they seem. Washington residents have already died this week in western Washington from not heeding this important rule.

Definitions:
Flood Watch: Be Prepared: A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for a specific hazardous weather event to occur. A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible.

Flood Advisory: Be Aware: A Flood Advisory is issued when a specific weather event that is forecast to occur may become a nuisance. A Flood Advisory is issued when flooding is not expected to be bad enough to issue a warning. However, it may cause significant inconvenience, and if caution is not exercised, it could lead to situations that may threaten life and/or property.

Flood Warning: Take Action! A Flood Warning is issued when the hazardous weather event is imminent or already happening. A Flood Warning is issued when flooding is imminent or occurring.

It's 2 AM, and Klickitat Fire District #12 just got back to the station after an early morning page out to an out-of-control wood pile fire. Chief Johnson responded in KCFD #12's 2500-gallon attack tender while Captain Jacobsen responded with our 400-gallon brush truck. When they arrived on-scene, they found approximately 7 cords of oak and pine firewood on fire, with flames threatening nearby trees and vehicles. Without any hydrants nearby, KCFD #12 requested a mutual aid water tender from Wahkiacus Fire & Rescue Dist. #15. Chief Leffler arrived in his command vehicle while volunteers Woodruff and Byron brought down their main water tender to assist in controlling the fire. After approximately two hours and 5,000 gallons of water later, the blaze was controlled. KCFD #12 is extremely appreciative of our Wahkiacus Fire & Rescue Dist. #15 brothers and sisters, who are always ready and willing to assist our department when we are in need - we make an awesome team! Thanks to the nearby neighbors for providing assistance with garden hoses during the event. We also want to thank Monster Energy for their product donation to our department, keeping our volunteers operational on these middle of the night call-outs! Stay safe out there!
