KFCNES Summer Update: Activities Students Love Are Here to Stay

Hello Klamath Falls City New Education School (KFCNES) Families,

This week, we're highlighting the activities, programs, and experiences students will continue to enjoy at Mills Elementary School and Ponderosa Middle School.

Students will continue to have access to the opportunities that help them learn, grow, and feel connected to school. At Ponderosa, students will continue to enjoy athletics, music, clubs, leadership opportunities, and electives. At Mills, students will continue to enjoy art, music, STEM, field trips, assemblies, and other experiences that make school engaging and meaningful.

As KFCNES is implemented, our goal is to strengthen academic support while preserving what makes each school unique. Students will continue learning in caring, engaging environments while benefiting from more consistent instruction and timely support.

KFCNES Reteach and Extension

The new daily schedule at Klamath Falls City New Education School (KFCNES) has a great new feature to help everyone learn better. This new plan makes sure every student gets taught at the exact level that is right for them.

Each day in math and reading, students will take a quick check for understanding at the end of class called an Exit Ticket. This helps teachers see who understood the lesson.

If students understand the lesson, they will head to the Team Center for 30 minutes to work on grade-level or above-grade-level skills.

If students need more help, they will stay with their teacher for 30 minutes of extra practice to master the skill.

This exciting routine makes sure everyone gets exactly what they need every single day.

This week, we are highlighting what instruction will look like as Klamath Falls City New Education School (KFCNES) is implemented at Mills Elementary and Ponderosa Middle School.

Some things will remain the same: students will continue learning with caring teachers, strong relationships, Capturing Kids’ Hearts practices, high expectations, and grade-level instruction.

Some things will become more consistent and more intentional: students will be asked to participate more actively, teachers will check for understanding more frequently, and students will receive faster support when they need reteaching or enrichment.

The goal is not to replace what makes Mills and Ponderosa special. The goal is to strengthen the school day with clearer routines, higher engagement, and stronger support for students and teachers.
