Youth ages 16-18, including Civil Air Patrol cadets, who are interested in flying can earn up to 15 flight hours and a chance to solo through U.S. Air Force Recruiting's Aim High Flight Academy program by AFRS Detachment 1. It’s a free, 3-week introductory program being held around the country next summer designed to teach and inspire future aviators. Thunderbird Composite Squadron held their annual awards ceremony last month to recognize the cadets for their hard work and achievements. We want to thank Lt. Col. Michael Eckert for attending and presenting awards. We would also like to thank all of the parents for attending the ceremony. All of our cadets are doing an outstanding job and we encourage them to keep promoting. The achievements presented are as follows: C/Major Leo Slack received his promotion to Major, his Earhart Milestone award (great accomplishment) and his encampment completion acknowledgement. Cadet Moore received his promotion to MSGT, his Wright Brothers Milestone award, the Red Service Ribbon and the named NCO cadet of the quarter. Cadet Vincent received her promotion to Airman, and was named Cadet of the quarter. This quarterly honor lets the cadet wear a special cord on their uniform to indicate this honor. Cadet Duran received their promotion to Airman 1st Class. Cadet Wang received his encampment completion achievement for honor cadet at the 2022 summer encampment. Honor cadet was only given to one cadet out of over 100 cadets so congratulations Cadet Wang. Senior Member Williamson was presented his Level 2 Benjamin O Davis award. Great job everyone. We look forward to seeing what you all will accomplish next year.

Maj. Gen. Edward D. Phelka, our national commander and CEO, encourages everyone in Civil Air Patrol to enjoy time with family and friends during the long Labor Day holiday weekend. CAP members worked extremely hard this summer hosting numerous highly successful activities across the nation.

Phelka hopes all members can take time off, such as a family day on Friday if schedules allow, to celebrate CAP’s success and to allow everyone to rest and recharge. CAP’s offices will also be closed during these days.
