This afternoon at 5:10, the Kirkwood Fire Company and Five Mile Fire Company were dispatched to a tractor-trailer fire on Route 81 South, exit 4. While en route, Pumper Tanker 38 encountered another vehicle fire on Cedarhurst Extension, where patrols were already on the scene extinguishing the fire. At that time, Chief 38B requested Squad 59 to respond to the incident and confirm the fire was completely extinguished, while Pumper Tanker 38 continued to the tractor-trailer fire. Thank you to the crew who responded to assist.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a special weather statement regarding Elevated Risk of Wildfire Spread for tomorrow Thursday April 9th. Any updates to this weather statement will be provided tomorrow morning. Statement can be read below.

EXTREME COLD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Dangerous wind chills colder than 20 below zero possible.

* WHERE...All of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.

* WHEN...From late Friday night through Sunday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An arctic front will bring cold air and strong winds to the region Saturday morning. Below normal temperatures and blustery winds will result in wind chills dropping well below zero Saturday morning. Wind chills will remain below zero through the rest of the weekend.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.

Kirkwood residents if you have a fire hydrant in front of or near your house please make sure the fire department has a clear path to the hydrant at all times. Whether it be snow or a vehicle parked in front of the hydrant, crucial time is lost in an emergency if they can't get to the hydrant.
