This past week, Kirkwood Police Officers and Communications personnel responded to 575 calls for service, addressing everything from traffic enforcement and juvenile concerns to theft investigations and the recovery of stolen vehicles.

Notable Incidents

๐Ÿ”น Parental Responsibility Citation Issued Following Mini Bike Violation

On June 1, an officer observed a juvenile operating a mini bike on public streets and sidewalks near Jewel Avenue and Kirkwood Road. The juvenile was recognized from a previous encounter involving the same issue. After contacting the juvenile's father, officers determined prior warnings had already been given regarding city ordinances prohibiting mini bikes on public roadways. Due to the repeated violation, a parental responsibility citation was issued.

๐Ÿ”น Officer Assaulted During Disturbance Call

Later that afternoon, officers responded to the 100 block of West Argonne after receiving reports of an apparently intoxicated individual yelling in a median area. Officers attempted to assist the individual, who quickly became physically aggressive. During the encounter, the suspect repeatedly ignored commands, struck at the officer, and resisted efforts to take him into custody. After multiple warnings, a Taser was deployed to safely gain control of the situation. The individual was transported to a local hospital and cited for Assaulting a Police Officer.

๐Ÿ”น Organized Retail Theft Reported

On June 4, officers investigated a theft at a retail store in the 400 block of North Kirkwood Road. Two suspects entered the business and filled shopping carts with high-demand merchandise, including laundry detergent, body wash, and soap products. Despite being confronted by store management and informed police had been called, the suspects fled the store, loaded the merchandise into a waiting vehicle, and left the area. The value of the stolen merchandise exceeded $600. The investigation remains active.

๐Ÿ”น Stolen Vehicle Located

A resident in the 2000 block of Oak Timber reported their vehicle stolen overnight on June 6. Later that same day, a St. Louis County Police officer located the vehicle in North St. Louis County, allowing investigators to continue their efforts toward identifying those responsible.

๐Ÿ”น Traffic Stop Leads to Recovery of Another Stolen Vehicle

On June 7, a routine traffic stop near South Kirkwood Road and Madison resulted in officers recovering a vehicle reported stolen by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The occupant required medical attention for an unrelated condition and was transported to a hospital. Information gathered during the investigation was forwarded to the appropriate detectives.

As we prepare for another great Route 66 Festival, please be aware of temporary street closures beginning Saturday, June 6 at 2:00 a.m.

To create a safe and enjoyable pedestrian-friendly festival environment, the following roadways will be closed to vehicle traffic:

These areas will remain open to pedestrians throughout the event.

During the week of May 18 through May 24, 2026, the Kirkwood Police Department and Communications staff handled 577 calls for service throughout the community. Officers responded to a wide variety of incidents including traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, disturbances, alarms, juvenile-related complaints, and Fire/EMS assists.

Notable Incidents & Arrests

๐Ÿ”น Property Damage / Graffiti Investigation
On Monday, May 18, 2026, a property manager for a building in the 11100 block of Manchester Road reported property damage after discovering spray-painted graffiti on the rear of the building. The vandalism is believed to have occurred during the overnight hours of May 13. The incident remains under investigation.

๐Ÿ”น Shoplifting Investigation
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the manager of a retail department store in the 10800 block of Manchester Road reported a delayed shoplifting incident that occurred on May 15. According to the reporting party, a suspect stole personal hygiene products valued at approximately $245 before leaving the business without paying.

๐Ÿ”น Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest
On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at approximately 9:14 PM, an officer conducted a traffic stop on westbound Interstate 44. During the investigation, the officer determined the driver was operating the vehicle while suspended and also had multiple active traffic warrants. The driver was taken into custody without incident.

๐Ÿ”น Convenience Store Burglary
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, at approximately 6:00 AM, officers responded to a burglary report at a convenience store located in the 10900 block of Manchester Road. The owner reported an unknown suspect illegally entered the business during the early morning hours and stole cartons of ci******es valued at approximately $1,500.

Surveillance footage captured the theft occurring around 5:21 AM. The suspect was described as an adult male of thin-to-medium build wearing a hooded sweatshirt, jeans, gloves, and a face covering. The suspect vehicle was described as a white SUV, possibly a GMC Acadia. Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

๐Ÿ”น Warrant Arrest Following Traffic Stop
Later that same morning, at approximately 8:39 AM, an officer conducted a traffic stop near North Geyer and Scottsdale. During the stop, the officer discovered the driver had multiple active traffic warrants. The driver was arrested and additionally cited for speeding, driving while revoked, and failure to provide proof of insurance.

๐Ÿ”น Traffic Enforcement Activity
On Friday, May 22, 2026, at approximately 2:02 PM, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road. The driver was arrested for active warrants and also issued multiple Kirkwood traffic citations.

๐Ÿ”น Child Molestation & Enticement Arrest
On Saturday, May 23, 2026, at approximately 5:15 PM, officers responded to a retail department store in the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road after receiving a report of a s*x offense involving a juvenile.

The initial report alleged that a 19-year-old male approached a 13-year-old female victim, rubbed against her, asked if she wanted to touch him, and requested a kiss. Responding officers quickly obtained a physical description of the suspect from the victim and reporting party.

Additional officers located a suspect matching the description walking through a nearby parking lot shortly after the incident and detained him while investigators conducted interviews and reviewed the circumstances of the case.

During the investigation, officers determined the suspect had kissed the juvenile victim and inappropriately touched her. Upon completion of the investigation, the suspect โ€” a 27-year-old male from the 63136 area โ€” was arrested and formally charged by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorneyโ€™s Office with:

โ€ข Child Molestation โ€“ 3rd Degree
โ€ข Enticement of a Child

The suspect was transported to the St. Louis County Intake Facility, where he is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.

๐Ÿ”น Juvenile Fight Investigation
Later that evening, at approximately 10:37 PM, officers responded to a parking lot in the 1000 block of South Kirkwood Road for a reported fight involving multiple females.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, a 17-year-old female, who provided details regarding the altercation. Based on statements from the victim, witnesses, and surveillance video evidence, officers identified a 12-year-old female as the primary aggressor in the incident.

The juvenile was taken into custody and later released to her grandmother. The case will be referred to the St. Louis County Family Courts for review.

At the Kirkwood Police Department, experience, dedication, and a commitment to community make all the difference and this week we are proud to recognize two officers reaching important milestones in their careers.

Detective Elliot is celebrating 10 years with Kirkwood Police. Bringing many years of prior law enforcement experience with him, Detective Elliot has continued to serve our community with professionalism, leadership, and a strong commitment to investigations and public safety. His experience and dedication have made a lasting impact on both the department and the residents we serve.

We are also proud to celebrate Officer McFatridge on her 1 year anniversary with the department. In her first year with Kirkwood Police, she has already shown a strong commitment to service, teamwork, and community engagement. We are excited to watch her continue to grow in her career and serve the Kirkwood community.

This Memorial Day, the Kirkwood Police Department honors all who served and gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day. We also extend our gratitude to the families who carry their legacy forward.

Tuesday, May 12, 2026 | Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

At approximately 6:04 AM, an Officer conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 44 after observing a vehicle traveling 107 MPH in a posted 60 MPH zone. During the investigation, the Officer determined the driver also had active traffic warrants. The driver was taken into custody and charged with:

Wednesday, May 13, 2026 | Credit Cards Stolen from Vehicle

A victim reported her credit cards were stolen from her purse while her vehicle was parked in the 11700 block of Craigwold. The theft occurred between approximately 4:20 PM and 5:10 PM. Shortly after the theft, the victim discovered the stolen cards had been used to make high-dollar purchases at retail locations in the Galleria and West County Mall areas.

Wednesday, May 13, 2026 | Traffic Stop Results in Arrest

At approximately 12:05 PM, an Officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Geyer Road and Scottsdale Road. Investigation revealed the driver had multiple active traffic warrants. The driver was arrested and charged with:

Thursday, May 14, 2026 | Restaurant Theft Suspect Located

At approximately 6:51 PM, employees from a restaurant in the 100 block of West Jefferson reported an unknown individual removed cash from a counter tip jar before fleeing the area. Officers obtained a physical description of the suspect and located a matching individual nearby. Following a positive identification by witnesses, the suspectโ€”a 36-year-old female from the Lemay areaโ€”was arrested and charged with Stealing.

Friday, May 15, 2026 | Porch Package Theft Reported

At approximately 12:50 PM, a resident in the 100 block of East Jewel reported a package stolen from their front porch after delivery.

Saturday, May 16, 2026 | Garage Burglary and Vehicle Theft

At approximately 6:10 AM, a resident in the 1200 block of Woodgate reported a vehicle stolen from inside their garage.

The resident advised upon waking, they found their garage door open and the vehicle missing. During the investigation, it appeared suspects entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway, removed the garage door opener, used it to access the garage, and then entered a second vehicle that had been left unlocked with the keys inside. Later that same day, the stolen vehicle was located approximately half a block from the residence and appeared to have been abandoned.

Please join us in congratulating Officers Thomas Oโ€™Brien #302, Carey Jones #387, and Tyresse Hyche #469 on being named Officer(s) of the Month for April 2026.

In April 2026, these officers responded to an attempted su***de involving a 63-year-old female suffering from severe self-inflicted wrist lacerations and major blood loss. Officers Oโ€™Brien and Hyche quickly removed the victim from her bathtub while Officer Jones immediately worked to control the bleeding until paramedics arrived.

Their swift actions, teamwork, courage, and professionalism exemplify the highest standards of the Kirkwood Police Department. Thanks to their efforts, immediate life-saving critical care was provided during a life-threatening emergency.
