Would you know what to do if someone suddenly collapsed or stopped breathing?

CPR and AED skills can help save a life while emergency responders are on the way—and they're easier to learn than many people think.

The City of Kirkland has partnered with the Medic One Foundation to offer free CPR/AED training for community members. You'll learn how to recognize a cardiac emergency, perform CPR, and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Whether you're a parent, coach, teacher, grandparent, or simply want to be prepared, this class can give you the confidence to act when every second counts.

The next upcoming CPR/AED Class is on Wednesday, June 17th, 4 - 8 p.m. at the Kirkland Justice Center. Learn more and register: https://www.kirklandwa.gov/Government/Departments/Fire-Department/Public-Education/CPR-Class

Planning to spend time on the water? ☀️🛥️🛶 Before you head out, make sure everyone has a properly fitted life jacket.

Even on warm days, our lakes are still cold and cold water shock can happen fast and affect anyone. Whether you’re boating, paddling, or fishing, wear a life jacket. It could save your life!

We’ve added a new truck to our fleet. 🔥🚒

This brush truck (Model 5) is highly maneuverable and able to go where larger engines can’t—rough terrain, narrow roads, and wooded areas. That means crews can reach fires faster in areas that are harder to access.

It’s another way we’re working to support our community here in Kirkland and our neighbors across the region.

Give your home some space.

As we head into warmer, drier weather, it’s a good time to think about wildfire safety—even here in Western Washington.

Creating space around your home can help slow the spread of fire.
- Trim vegetation and clear away dry debris
- Keep flammable materials away from structures
- Follow local burn restrictions

Strong women don’t just break barriers - they hold the door open for others. 💪
Kirkland Firefighter Avcu recently joined an incredible group of women from departments across King County for a hands-on Search Lab hosted by Seattle Fire Department. Opportunities like this build skills and strengthen connections within the fire service.

May is Water Safety Month. As we head into warmer weather, it’s a good time to brush up on safe habits around the water.
- Swimmers wearing life jackets do not drown. We know they can "kill your vibe", but they can also save your life.
- Don't swim alone, bring a friend.
- Have a designated "kid watcher" whose only job is to keep eyes on the kids in the water.
- Stick to designated swim areas.
- Do not follow friends out into deeper water beyond your ability.
Let’s make it a safe and fun season on the water. 😎

Yesterday, the crew at Fire Station 24 responded to a tiny emergency with high stakes. After a mama duck sounded the alarm beside a storm drain, the crew removed the grate, rescued her ducklings, and reunited the family.

Although no injuries reported, there were several ruffled feathers. Plus one very relieved mama duck.
