🐦🎨 Birds on the Prairie Murals Are Looking for Homes!

You may remember seeing these colorful murals come to life during the June 20 Music in the Park event! The Kiowa Main Street Board, in collaboration with local artist Deb Nahm and the Town of Kiowa, organized a special community painting event that resulted in four beautiful murals celebrating the birds of the prairie that we see throughout Kiowa and Elbert County.

Now that the murals are complete, they are ready to find permanent homes where people can visit, enjoy, and learn about them!

🏛️ Want to see them in person?
The murals are currently displayed inside the front doors of Kiowa Town Hall. Stop by during regular business hours and take a look at the Hawk, Owl, Magpies, and Crow murals.

🏢 Could your business or organization be their new home?

Businesses and organizations with a physical location in Kiowa along Highway 86 are invited to apply to have one of the murals displayed at their location. Each mural is approximately 4' x 4', painted on MDO plywood, and protected with three coats of exterior-grade urethane designed to help it withstand the elements for approximately 10–12 years.

Applications ask interested locations to tell us why they would like to host a mural, where it would be displayed, how it would be cared for, and to rank the four murals in order of preference.

These murals were created by our community, for our community, and we are excited to see them become part of Kiowa's Main Street for years to come. Come see them at Town Hall and help us find the perfect homes for our Birds on the Prairie! 🦅🦉🐦

🏛️ We Want to Hear From You — Kiowa Town Hall Survey

The Town of Kiowa, in partnership with the University of Colorado Denver College of Architecture and Planning, is exploring concepts for the future use and potential redevelopment of Town Hall.

Conceptual renderings were presented to the community on September 9, and now we are asking residents, business owners, and other community stakeholders to share their thoughts and priorities.

Town Hall has served Kiowa for many years, but the building no longer fully meets the Town’s current and future needs. The planning process is an opportunity to look at accessibility, efficient use of space, public meeting and community space, building functionality, and how the property can best serve residents and businesses for decades to come. Rather than making decisions in isolation, the Town wants the community involved in determining what that future could look like.

No final design or development decisions have been made. These concepts are intended to start the conversation and help us understand what our community would like to see for these important public spaces.

Even if you were unable to attend the September 9 community meeting, we still want your input! Your feedback will be provided to the project team and considered as the Town evaluates the concepts and determines potential next steps.

🏛️ COMMUNITY MEETING NEXT WEEK – WE WANT YOUR INPUT!

The Town of Kiowa invites our community to join us Wednesday, September 9 at 6:00 PM at the Elbert County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building for a look at conceptual renderings for the future of Kiowa Town Hall.

We’ve been working on ideas for how we can improve and expand Town Hall while making the most of the building we already have, and now we want to hear from you!

Come see the conceptual renderings, learn more about the ideas being explored, ask questions, and share your thoughts as we begin considering what the future of this important community building could look like.

Stop by the Town of Kiowa’s Kids Tent at Elizabeth’s Backyard BBQ TODAY from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Running Creek Park!

Then scoot on up the road to Kiowa for our final Music in the Park event of the summer from 4:00–7:30 p.m., featuring local favorite David Chapa! While you’re there, check out the exciting improvements being made to our park for everyone to enjoy.

Come out, support local, and enjoy a fun-filled day with our neighboring communities! 🌭🎸🎉

• However, this is a long-term relationship – we want these murals to remain on/around your building, so please make sure this is what you want too.
• Kiowa Main Street will not be hanging the murals. But... our artist Deb Nahm will share information and answer questions about how to safely affix them to your property.
• More information is on the application itself, or feel free to comment below with questions you might have.
