The Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District held their Annual Education Celebration to recognize all the accomplishments of the students that participated in the Education Contests and NC Coastal Envirothon. This year, Lenoir SWCD had over 275 students participate in the Education Contest with 35 District Education Contest Winners, 8 Area 6 Education Contest Winners, and 2 State Education Contest Winners!

4 teams competed in the NC Coastal Envirothon and 1 team that advanced to the State Envirothon!

Congratulations to all of the students and we hope you continue to participate in Lenoir SWCD Education Programs!

The Lenoir County Soil and Water Conservation District held its annual Education Celebration beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in the King’s Restaurant Banquet Room. More than 30 students were honored in 13 separate categories for addressing the theme “We All Live in a Watershed.”

This week, the Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District had the honor of hosting the NC Soil & Water Commission Meeting, assisting with the NC Coastal Envirothon, and launching the first-ever Lenoir County AgDays event.

On March 17, 2026, members of the NC Soil & Water Commission toured the AgDays event, visited a microirrigation system installed in Lenoir County soil and water, and heard from Dr. Barbara Doll about the Water Farming Pond at Caswell Research Farm. Visit Kinston provided transportation for the tours, hosted a Pig Pickin’ Tuesday evening, and supplied breakfast and refreshments Wednesday morning.

On March 18, 2026, the NC Soil & Water Commission Meeting was held at Cunningham Research Farm. New commission members were sworn in by Imelda Pate. Opening remarks were given by Linda Rouse Sutton and Charles Hughes.

Also on March 17, four teams from Woodington Middle School—Bubble Guppies FFA, UmiZoomi FFA, Ken & Barbies FFA, and Jesus Saves FFA—competed in the NC Coastal Envirothon. UmiZoomi FFA earned 3rd place and will advance to the State Envirothon in April. We wish them the best of luck!

On March 17–18, 2026, the first-ever Lenoir County AgDays was held at the Lenoir County Livestock Arena. All 6th-grade students from Lenoir County Public Schools attended, gaining hands-on exposure to a wide range of agricultural topics.

At the Area 6 Education Contest, Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District had a total of 8 students win 1st place in their respective categories! The Lenoir Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors and Staff congratulate all the winners and wish you all the best of luck competing in the State Education Contest!
