With warmer temperatures and afternoon winds returning to our area this week, fire danger is on the rise. Fine fuels (like dry grass and brush) are extremely receptive to heat right now, meaning a single spark can lead to a fast-moving fire. To help prevent accidental fires, please run through this quick safety check:

📍 Parking: Don't park vehicles in tall grass (hot catalytic converters = fires).
⚙️ Tools: Check chainsaws and mowers for functioning spark arrestors.
🏍️ Recreation: Be mindful of where you ride ATVs and dirt bikes.
One spark is all it takes. Stay safe! ”

Looking back on 2025….

It has been a very busy and successful year for the fire fighters of Morton-Kinnear.

Several of the members from FCFPD Battalion 5 were part of wildland fire crews ordered to multiple locations in the western U.S. Even with these members gone a large part of the fire season the battalion and all of its members strived for excellence completing a combined total of 1,121 hours of training.
These trainings ranged from basic trainings like CPR/first aid to live-fire trainings at the burn building. Many members participated in trainings to further their knowledge of vehicle extrications, learning how to deal with electric vehicles and learning the fundamentals of effective communications during a call
Jack Applegate has completed certification in Fire Fighter I and is currently working to obtain certification in Fire Fighter II.
Jared Hughes is currently working to gain certification in Fire Fighter II.
David Lain obtained certification in Fire Fighter I and is progressing in his certification in Fire Fighter II.
Cody Scott obtained certification in Fire Instructor I and is planning to work toward obtaining certification in Fire Officer I as the new year begins.
Mike Sparks obtained certifications Engine Boss, Fire Officer II and Fire Investigation Technician.

Thank you all for your dedication and drive to continuously work to better yourselves and the battalion.

Thank you to our community members for the support you all show every day.
