Last night Chief Stewart had the distinguished honor of attending the Backstoppers Annual Banquet at the Chase Park Plaza honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the Line of Duty and honoring those who were critically injured in the line of Duty. Whom our very own Captain Michael Pickett Jr was one of the critically injured Honorees. Captain Pickett suffered a catastrophic hemorrhagic stroke while responding to an emergency on duty. The Backstoppers organization showed up and rendered very much needed financial assistance to Captain Pickett and his family without hesitation. At that time Captain Pickett had a High School Senior who was preparing to go to prom graduate from HS and go off to college.

Backstoppers stepped up and provided assistance for Captain Picketts daughter highschool tuition and doubled down providing financial assistance for her college tuition as well! Backstoppers truly lives up to their mission of taking care of FIRE FIGHTERS POLICE OFFICERS EMS PERSONNEL AND ALL FIRST RESPONDERS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN THE TIMES OF CRISIS WHEN SOME UNFORTUNATELY DIE IN THE LINE OF DUTY AND OR ARE CRITICALLY INJURED IN THE LINE OF DUTY. Please JOIN THE KINLOCH FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT IN SUPPORTING THE BACKSTOPPERS ORGANIZATION THE HEROS WHO RESCUE HEROS!👨‍🚒👨🏾‍🚒🚒👮👮🏾‍♂️🚓🚑

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Captain Tommy Shine.

We are grieving much more than the loss of a great firefighter—we have lost a great friend, father, husband, and so much more. Tommy fought a long, hard battle to get back to where he was, leaning on his faith in God every step of the way. Knowing how far he came makes this loss even more difficult to understand.

For 24 years, from volunteer to career Firefighter/EMT to Captain, Tommy was a part of our family. He found true joy in helping others and bringing smiles to those around him while living life to the fullest. Through his service with the Wentzville Fire Protection District, he showed every day what it means to care—always striving to leave people a little better than he found them. He was a light in the lives of so many, and his kindness, strength, and dedication will never be forgotten.

We stand alongside Brittany and the entire Shine family during this incredibly difficult time.
