๐Ÿš’ Congratulations to Our Future Firefighters! ๐Ÿš’

The Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce that two of our members, **Evie Eden** and **Maddie Swope**, have successfully completed their live burn training as part of their Firefighter I certification process.

Live burn training is one of the most demanding and important portions of firefighter training, providing hands-on experience in realistic fire conditions while reinforcing critical firefighting skills and safety practices.

While Evie and Maddie still have their written examinations ahead of them, they have completed all practical requirements, and we have all the confidence in the world that they will excel on their tests and earn their firefighter certifications.

We are incredibly proud of their dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving the Kingwood community. Please join us in congratulating Evie and Maddie on reaching this important milestone in their firefighting journey!

๐Ÿ”ฅ Congratulations, Evie and Maddie! We look forward to officially welcoming you as certified firefighters very soon. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

This evening, Kingwood firefighters had a productive night. They were joined by Forester Mike Reese from the West Virginia Division of Forestry, who presented a Stihl chainsaw to the team. Ten firefighters had previously attended a wildland fire class on April 19th. During the evening, Chief Rouzee presented the firefighters with four new Stihl backpack blowers, which will significantly enhance their brush fire capabilities. The blowers were obtained through a grant provided by the West Virginia Division of Forestry. Additionally, the Kingwood Volunteer Firefighters received pizzas courtesy of Kingwood Foxโ€™s Pizza. We extend our gratitude to the donors for the food, grant, and training opportunities, which enable us to better serve our community and county.

Two Kingwood firefighters, Nate Shafer and Bri Conley, devoted their weekend, commencing Friday night, to participate in a 24-hour Fireground Search and Rescue course. This training enabled them to refine their fireground search and rescue skills. The course curriculum encompassed topics and skills such as searching large structures, searching ahead of and off hand-lines, differentiating between fully involved structures and survivability profiling, VES, utilizing thermal imaging cameras, and executing search and rescue operations during basement fires. The first evening consisted of classroom instruction, the second day involved hands-on training, and the final day integrated all skills under live fire conditions.

Yesterday, the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department conducted its annual required hose testing, as mandated by the WV State Fire Marshal's office in accordance with state code. This testing ensures our readiness when fire hose is required. Kingwood maintains various sizes of hose to serve different functions at emergency scenes. In total, tens of thousands of feet of hose were tested. We are pleased to report that only three sections of hose failed, one of which can be repaired and returned to service.

The Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department meets every Monday evening from 6pm till approximately 9pm. During these Mondays firefighters do training, apparatus and equipment checks, apparatus maintenance and firehouse maintenance. This Monday KVFD firefighters worked on hose advancement, search and rescue and driver training. We even took in part of the WVU baseball game and always have a laugh. If you do the math thatโ€™s an additional 150 hours our volunteers put into the department and overall the community.
