This week we recognize Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week.
The people working in these fields play a critical role in the juvenile justice community. With 164 probation departments covering the 254 counties in Texas, county probation departments, urban, rural, and suburban, help thousands of youths each year.
Pretrial, probation and parole staff assist youth in getting back on track and share the goal of helping kids get the most appropriate services and avoid incarceration, when possible.
TJJD parole officers and a wide variety of support staff help youth who’ve been in detention or state secure facilities connect with jobs, education, and other resources so they can rejoin their communities on a better trajectory.
"Our state’s probation and parole professionals are among the very best in the country, and the commitment and professionalism you’ve shown each day on behalf of our youth, their families, and for victims, is essential to the mission of juvenile justice in Texas,” said Lou Serrano, TJJD’s Deputy Executive Director of Probation, Reentry and Community Services.
“Your jobs are challenging under the best of circumstances and often go without a lot of notice or credit. I am proud of the strides we are making to help guide and redirect youth and keep our communities safe."
