Far West Temple Site

Far West Temple Site Far West was home to a large Latter-day Saint community in the late 1830s where a place for building a temple was dedicated.

The Far West Temple Site, located several miles northwest of Kingston, Missouri, is where Latter-day Saints began to build a temple in July 1838. Serving as the Church headquarters for a short time, Far West, in Caldwell County, Missouri, was also the location where the Lord revealed the full name of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and established the law of tithing.

Time has erased the boundaries of the settlement of Far West. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regularly conducts research to better understand where those boundaries were. Much of that research is done off-site in various libraries and archives. Occasionally that research is done on-site. Last week, a team from Brigham Young University used ground-penetrating radar to help with this effort. Thank you, BYU, for your work at Far West.
