It is that time of year again.

Spring is nearly here, and so is the annual burn ban. As the snow melts and temperatures rise, New York State is at an increased risk of wildfires in the spring. In effect from March 16 through May 14, the annual burn ban prohibits residents from burning vegetation and brush with few exceptions.

Last night, February 17th, Lomontville Fire was dispatched along with automatic mutual aid from Stone Ridge Volunteer Fire Company for a reported propane tank explosion with fire spreading to the residence. The bulk of the fire was brought under control approximately one hour into the call. Crews remained on scene for several additional hours to conduct overhaul operations and complete any necessary water suppression.

The occupants of the residence were assisted by the American Red Cross.

Lomontville was cleared from the scene at 2034 hours when we were notified of a second call in the district reporting smoke in the residence. We responded again with automatic mutual aid from Stone Ridge Fire. Upon arrival, crews quickly determined the smoke was coming from a wood stove, and companies were back in service shortly after.

Lomontville would like to thank all of our mutual aid and partner agencies for their assistance during these calls.

Thank you to Stone Ridge Fire, West Hurley Fire, Bloomington Fire, Ulster Hose Co. #5, High Falls Fire, Marbletown First Aid, the Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit, Ulster County Emergency Services, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police, and Central Hudson.
