🚨 RECALL ALERT 🚨

Nara Organics Whole Milk Powdered Infant Formula has been recalled as a safety measure after 3 reports of infant botulism. Botulism poses a threat to infant lives. Symptoms may include constipation, loss of appetite, weakness, poor suck, weakness or paralysis of the eyes, an altered cry, and a noticeable loss of head control. It can take up to 30 days to develop signs and symptoms.

🛑Throw away unopened cans immediately or contact the company you purchased it from for refund instructions.
🛑If you have opened cans, stop using immediately. Take a photo of the container, label "DO NOT USE" and retain for one month.
🛑If symptoms occur in your infant after consuming the formula, contact your health provider as soon as possible.

Driven by a new state public health law, NYS's Lead Rental Registry aims to reduce incidences of childhood lead poisoning by addressing lead hazards in rental homes before a child experiences the harmful effects of lead. Lead poisoning can cause detrimental health impacts, such as slowed growth and development, learning and behavior problems, and more.

Tenants will take home totes with lead cleaning supplies, while supplies last.

Spanish interpretation will be available.

A Special Story Time for Kids!

Last week as part of National Public Health Week, kids at elementary schools and public libraries across the county got to participate in Story Time with special guests from the Ulster County Department of Health reading "Germs are Not for Sharing."

After the book, the kids did a fun activity that showed them how well they washed their hands- or didn't- and sneaky places that germs can hide!

So remember, wash your hands after sneezing, coughing, and using the bathroom, and before eating or sleeping.

And good handwashing doesn't just stop germs in their tracks. It helps reduce exposure to lead dust, and lead in the soil if you live, or spend time in, a home built before 1980!

¡Un Cuentacuentos Especial para Niños!

La semana pasada, como parte de la Semana Nacional de la Salud Pública, los niños de las escuelas primarias y bibliotecas públicas del condado pudieron participar en Cuentacuentos con invitados especiales del Departamento de Salud del Condado de Ulster leyendo "Los Gérmenes No Son Para Compartir".

Después del libro, los niños realizaron una actividad divertida que les mostró qué tan bien se lavaban las manos, o no, y los lugares ocultos donde los gérmenes pueden esconderse.

Así que recuerda, lávate las manos después de estornudar, toser y usar el baño, y antes de comer o dormir.

Y un buen lavado de manos no solo detiene a los gérmenes. También ayuda a reducir la exposición al polvo de plomo y al plomo en la tierra si vives o pasas tiempo en una casa construida antes de 1980.

Did you know that Ulster County has a Lyme disease rate that is FIVE TIMES the New York State average? Protect yourself from Lyme disease and other tickborne illnesses by following a few important steps:

🔎Make daily tick checks a part of your routine, especially as the weather warms up
🌿Pack a tick remover for all outdoor activities, including yardwork
✔️Know what to do if you're bitten: 1) Remove the tick, 2) Clean the area, 3) Document the date and type of tick, 4) Contact your doctor
