On Saturday, May 30th, six Kingston Firefighters participated in the "Fire Behavior from the Inside" training session, presented by the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, held at the Glasco Fire Department. These six individuals represent the latest cohort of newly hired paramedics and EMTs. This course is widely regarded as the premier training program for firefighters seeking to understand the dynamics and factors influencing fire behavior. The simulation conditions endured by the students were as realistic as possible while maintaining safety protocols. Completion of this course is mandatory for all new Kingston Firefighters. I am pleased to acknowledge the achievement of these six individuals, as well as the 28 members who have previously completed the program.

Kingston, are you aware that the Kingston Fire Department now boasts 16 paramedic/firefighters? Mayor Noble's vision was to provide residents with top-tier advanced life support ambulances, and he has achieved this goal with two fully staffed Advanced Life Support ambulances operating 24/7, as well as two firefighter/paramedics on other apparatus. The department is equipped with a fully equipped third ALS ambulance and a SUV vehicle ready for deployment if necessary. With over 40 years of experience in EMS services, I confidently attest that Mayor Noble, the Kingston Common Council, Local 461 members, and I have delivered a superior Fire/EMS department to the City of Kingston.

On March 8th at 17:05 hours, the Kingston Fire Department/ Ulster County Haz-Mat Team was requested by New Paltz Fire to investigate a reported odor and potential fuel oil leak in the vicinity of 16 Main Street. En route, Kingston personnel were informed by New Paltz Assistant Fire Chief that an active leak into the storm sewer and Wallkill River had been confirmed. Kingston's response included Haz-Mat 1, the NYS DEC Spill trailer, and the Zodiac boat. Upon arrival, Kingston personnel were briefed by New Paltz Fire Command and Ulster Cointy Emergency Management representatives. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) had already been notified and was responding to the incident. Due to the significant quantity of product in the river and sewer line, Haz-Mat determined that deploying two booms was necessary: one at the sewer line's drainage point into the river and a second in Rifton. However, due to strong currents and ice flow, only the boom at the point of entry was successfully established, as the booms intended for Rifton were torn and dislodged. Monitoring of the origin address and sewer line confirmed they were safe upon completion of operations. Assistance was provided by the following agencies: New Paltz Fire, New Paltz Police, NYS DEC, Rifton Fire, New Paltz Auxiliary, and New Paltz Sewer Department.

Kingston firefighters recently conducted our annual bailout training, an essential skill that prepares firefighters to safely exit a structure if conditions rapidly deteriorate.

Training focused on window bailouts using personal escape systems, reinforcing techniques that allow firefighters to quickly and safely exit upper floors when traditional egress is no longer possible. These drills ensure our members remain proficient, confident, and ready to protect both themselves and the community we serve.

Regular training like this is critical to maintaining the high level of readiness expected from the Kingston Fire Department.

Stay safe, Kingston!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the family of Sergeant Timothy McGuire for providing dinner to the on-duty firefighters at Central Station last night.

Your generosity and thoughtfulness mean more than words can express. Acts of kindness like this remind us how fortunate we are to serve such a supportive and caring community. After a long shift, a warm meal and the support behind it truly make a difference.

From all of us at Central Station — thank you for keeping us fueled and appreciated! 🚒❤️
