Good evening Spartans:

This is an update from the Transportation Department regarding bus routes and timing.

Due to the ongoing school bus driver shortage, we are continuing to work closely with our transportation providers to adjust routes and bus schedules. We sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding our families have shown so far, and we ask that you please continue to be patient as we work through these adjustments and changes.

Our goal is to provide safe, reliable, and consistent transportation for all students who utilize our bus services.

We understand that double runs are currently causing delays with some morning pick-ups and afternoon drop-offs. Please know that our transportation provider is working diligently to recruit, hire, and onboard additional bus drivers as quickly as possible. We are working together to improve the situation and return schedules to a more consistent routine.

Kindergarten families:
Please remember that at the end of the school day, a parent/guardian or another responsible adult who is known to the bus driver must be present at the bus stop to receive your child. If no responsible adult is present, the student will be returned to the school and a parent/guardian will be required to pick them up.

Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work through these challenges. We appreciate our community and are committed to keeping our students safe while providing the best transportation service possible.

Thank you and as always, GO SPARTANS!

Dr. Charles R. Suppon Jr. Ed.D.
Superintendent

From Mr. DeRocco:

All passenger vehicles with students will be diverted into the school parking lot to drop-off in a designated safety zone. Only buses and student vans will be able to drop-off in the front of the school building on Dana Street.

Morning Arrival:

The drop-off zone will be the middle lane of the back section of the parking lot:

◦ Arrive at school within the designated drop-off time window. (8:30am - 8:40am) Students are NOT to be on school grounds until 8:30AM.

◦ Follow the directions of designated staff who will assist in the traffic flow.

◦ Once you are in the drop-off zone and place your vehicle in park.

◦ Briefly say goodbye to your child and ensure they have all necessary belongings before they exit the vehicle.

◦ Once your child is safely out of the car, pull forward to allow other vehicles to drop off.

◦ Your child will be directed to the sidewalk that runs through the center of the lawn and to the crosswalk where the crossing guard is stationed.

ALL STUDENTS WILL ENTER THE SCHOOL THROUGH THE FRONT DOORS beginning at 8:30AM AND GATHER INSIDE THE BUILDING IN DESIGNATED AREAS BY GRADE LEVEL.

School begins at 8:40. You are marked tardy as of 8:55.

WVW State Street Elementary parents/guardians, please review the attached document regarding student pickup/drop off. If you will be driving to State Street Elementary, please be reminded that vehicles cannot be left unattended in the drop off lane. If you would like to walk your child(ren) to the doors, please park your vehicle in an available parking space to the rear of the school building.

Also, anyone traveling on E. State Street in the area of the school, expect heavier then normal traffic during morning drop off and afternoon pickup. Thank you for everyone’s assistance in making the 2026-27 school year a safe one.

Jamielynn Taylor (pictured with her brother, Wrighter) recently raised an incredible $2,100 through her lemonade stand. She used the funds to purchase backpacks, fill them with school supplies, and donate them to State Street Elementary.

The backpacks will be given to students in need and will also be used to recognize students who demonstrate acts of kindness toward others, continuing the spirit of generosity and compassion that Jamielynn so beautifully represents.

A big thank you to our Student Council members for helping us kick off the school year in a special way!

Our students spent time decorating faculty parking spots with colorful artwork, encouraging messages, and creative designs. Their hard work, positivity, and school spirit brought smiles to our staff and made for a wonderful welcome back to school.

We are grateful for the time and effort these students put into making our teachers and staff feel appreciated. Thank you for helping create a positive start to the year and for showing what it means to be a part of the Wyoming Valley West Middle School community!
