Think fast: What's one of the best pieces of firefighting and lifesaving equipment?
Answer: A closed door.

A closed door can hinder flames and smoke from spreading to other rooms and can help deprive a fire of the oxygen it needs to grow, limiting the structural damage a fire can cause and, most importantly, saving lives. In fact, closing doors to quarantine a fire is an age-old technique used by firefighters that homeowners should always keep in mind.

Remember:

-Close the bedroom door when sleeping, if possible.
-Close doors behind you when escaping a room or building that's on fire.
-Keep fire doors closed. Never wedge, disable or prop open fire doors in any building.

The Kingston Springs Fire Department is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Fire Chief and long-time KS resident, Jimmy Butner.

Chief Butner was more than a leader—he was a mentor, a servant to his community, and a driving force behind the strength and character of our department today. His dedication, hard work, and genuine love for this department helped shape the Kingston Springs Fire Department into what it is today. His legacy will continue to live on in every call we answer and in the values he instilled in those who had the honor to serve alongside him.

Please join us in keeping his wife, Tina, and the entire Butner family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We stand with you and extend our deepest condolences and unwavering support.

We understand that many residents are cleaning up after the recent storm. If you choose not to transport your debris to the landfill on Sams Creek Rd., and plan to burn it on your property, please do so safely and responsibly.

Before burning, you must obtain a burn permit. Burn permits are free and available 24/7 by visiting www.burnsafetn.org
and clicking on “Get Permit”, or by calling 877-350-2876 during business hours. Required for ALL residents of 37082.

If you plan to burn, please follow these safety guidelines:

• Only burn natural vegetation such as limbs, branches, and untreated wood. Do NOT burn trash, construction debris, or household waste.
• Check the weather. Do not burn on windy days or when conditions are dry and gusty.
• Keep your burn pile small and manageable.
• Stay with the fire at all times — never leave it unattended.
• Keep a water source, hose, or tools nearby to extinguish the fire if needed.
• Ensure the fire is completely out before leaving the area.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping our community safe.

As we all know, roads around Kingston Springs are narrow and twisting. When you encounter lights and sirens on our roads, it's the law to pull over immediately – whether we are behind you or approaching. We may be headed to save a neighbor, friend, or someone you love. Thank you.

🇺🇸 Honoring the Heroes of December 7, 1941 🇺🇸

Today, the Kingston Springs Volunteer Fire Department pauses to remember the brave men and women who fought and gave their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor 83 years ago. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to our nation will never be forgotten.

On this solemn day of remembrance, we honor those who stood in the face of unimaginable adversity and those who never returned home. Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we cherish and in the hearts of all who serve.

“A date which will live in infamy.”
— President Franklin D. Roosevelt

We will always remember.
