“To all the foster kids out there, don’t give up just because your 1st, 5th & 10th home didn’t work out.
Don’t give up just because it’s scary or hard.
Don’t give up because you think you don’t deserve a family, because YOU DO.
Don’t give up your high school diploma just because only 1 in 4 foster kids graduate. I was that 1.
Don’t give up on your college career just because only 3% get accepted/graduate. I was part of that 3%.
Don’t cave into drugs and alcohol like I did, but if you do, get help, like I did. It is NOT a healthy coping mechanism.
If you’re being abused in your foster home mentally, physically, or sexually, SPEAK UP.
Don’t let the label of “foster kid” define& your purpose. Being a foster kid is ONLY a PART of your story. Being a foster kid will NOT be your final chapter.
Don’t use being a “foster kid” as a crutch or excuse to not succeed and live a quality life.
My journey in the foster system started when I was just 4 years old & continued until I was just shy of my 18th birthday.
For 4,842 days, I was tossed from home to home, family to family, city to city, school to school, making friends and losing friends but 12 foster homes, 3 grouphomes, 9 schools, 6 cities/towns, and 5 case works later, I got lucky and was adopted.
Thank you to Dan & Amanda Ficca for giving a kid in the system a second chance at life. Without you I would have never been where I am today.
From a former kid in the system to any and all current kids in the system, everything will be alright, just breathe, fight, and sit tight.” -Jack Violet Marie
