We had a beautiful morning for our very first Adopt-a-Highway clean-up day. Thank you Michigan Department of Transportation for providing the materials for this program! Our section is a two mile stretch from the corner of M95 and M69 heading towards F***h, MI. We will be back in the spring for another clean-up day.

Did you hear the news? The 2026 Michigan Capitol Christmas Tree that will be in Downtown Lansing during the Silver Bells in the City will be from Iron Mountain!

In a release from Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB), the 2026 State Christmas Tree is a 60 foot spruce tree donated by the Larry Riccio family. It will be harvested on November 5th and transported with the help of Michigan Association of Timbermen, Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, and DTMB Christmas tree crew.

So if you see the Michigan State Christmas Tree this holiday season, know it was grown in Dickinson County. Thank you, Riccio family for your donation.

Hello and happy Friday forestry! Today was a great day! I joined researchers and forest managers from across the western UP for an interactive workshop focused on key management challenges facing the region’s northern hardwood forests. Learn about new research, share perspectives on applied forest management, and build connections with local land managers and researchers. Attendees included forest researchers and managers from Michigan Technological University, the Michigan DNR, the U.S. Forest Service, the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Nature Conservancy, the Houghton/Keweenaw Conservation District, the Marquette/Alger Conservation District, and of course me from the Dickinson/ Menominee districts. We are working hard to try and help our forests be healthy and resilient!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!
