We want to share two incidents in which our officers went above and beyond their expected duties, demonstrating compassion for community members in need. In both cases, the officers acted out of kindness, not for recognition, nor because they were asked or expected to do so. Chief Cooper and the Kingman Police Department acknowledged all three officers for their actions.

Officer Hopper and Officer Reid
Cyrus is an autistic adult who had been abandoned by his family in Kingman. Officer Reid had met Cyrus before and understood he was vulnerable; despite being an adult, he had the cognitive functioning of a child and needed help caring for himself. Cyrus was currently homeless and living out on the street.
Officer Reid knew Cyrus's mother and aunt in Maine were searching for him and deeply concerned for his well-being.
Officer Hopper, informed of the situation, helped locate Cyrus at a local park. At that time, Cyrus had limited food and clothing and no reliable means to communicate with his family.
When Cyrus learned his mother and aunt had been actively looking for him, he hesitated to believe it. He had always thought his mother wanted nothing to do with him.
Officers helped reconnect Cyrus with his mother by phone. For the first time in a long while, he could speak to her again. Cyrus said he also wanted to live with his family in Maine.
As his family prepared to travel to Kingman, Officer Reid and Officer Hopper coordinated resources to ensure Cyrus had food, a motel room, and a cell phone so he could stay in touch with his family.
His aunt then traveled across the country from Maine to Kingman to pick Cyrus up and bring him back home. After years apart and thousands of miles separating them, Cyrus was finally reunited with his family.
Today, Cyrus is safely back in Maine, surrounded by people who love and support him. For their compassionate actions that led to this happy ending, Officer Reid and Officer Hopper received a Mugging award.
Officer Mosby
Officers investigated a serious incident at a residence, arrested the suspect, and secured the property as part of the investigation. Outside the residence stood a young mother, her small child, and the child's great-grandmother, who could not enter while officers continued the investigation.
Officer Mosby arrived to assist at the scene and, while spending time with the family, saw an opportunity to make things a little easier during this already difficult situation.
After leaving the scene, Officer Mosby decided to personally buy food, snacks, and beverages for the family and brought them directly to them.
Officer Mosby went out of his way to spend his time and money to comfort and help this family. For those reasons, he received a mugging award.
