Since 1967, International Literacy Day (ILD) celebrations have taken place annually around the world to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society. Despite steady progress made across the world, literacy challenges persist with at least 763 million young people and adults lacking basic literacy skills in 2020. September is Be Kind to Writers and Editors Month. Writers and editors come in many forms and from many different genres and disciplines, but all of them have a difficult job in common. Here are some ways to show your love for writers and editors: send an eCard to thank or acknowledge them; email your favorite writer wishing them a great month; mention your favorite writer on social media and tag them; follow, friend or like them on your social media outlets. After all, writers are all around us and we want them to continue doing what they do! Visit the Northwestern Regional Library for more ways to be kind to writers and editors!
