Reesville

The early postal name “Reesville” (1820–1829) in present-day Upper Merion Township reflects the presence of the Welsh Quaker Rees family, early settlers who owned land and operated the historic King of Prussia Inn in the area. While often misunderstood as a separate town, Reesville was actually an early post office designation tied to a small crossroads settlement that later became Upper Merion and then King of Prussia.

Historical sources indicate the name likely derived from the Rees family’s local prominence rather than any formal town incorporation, marking an important but limited footprint in the region’s early development.

Mining and Quarrying | Marble

For over a century, Upper Merion Township served as a vital industrial center where local quarries extracted the famous "King of Prussia marble," a distinctive blue stone featured in iconic 19th-century landmarks like Philadelphia’s Girard College and the U.S. Capitol. This prosperous mining era, centered around the village of King of Prussia, provided the "Pennsylvania Blue" marble and limestone that fueled regional growth and built some of America’s most significant Greek Revival structures.

The Roberts Schoolhouse has a brand-new roof thanks, in part, to a 2026 Board of Community Assistance (BCA) grant awarded to McKaig.

This project is a great example of how BCA funding supports local organizations and helps preserve important community assets. With the support of this unique matching grant opportunity, the project moved from funding to completion almost immediately.

The Roberts Schoolhouse is an important piece of Upper Merion’s history, and this improvement will help protect and preserve it for years to come.
