RA7: Week 15 of 28

Last week, Recruit Academy 7 had one day on Fire Cause and Origin and Fire Detection & Suppression Systems. The rest of the week was at the Training Center. The Recruits had two long days of Multi-Company Operations in preparation for their Firefighter 2 burn that was on Friday.

These Recruits did a great job, with all of them passing the live fire evolutions.

The main difference between Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 is that during Firefighter 2, these Recruits are learning to be crew leaders. This involves:
- Risk Management
- Size up and evaluation of initial actions on an emergency scene
- Maintaining accountability of their crew
- Communicating to Incident command on action and benchmarks completed.

Great work, Recruits! Next week they will be preparining to take their State test for the program.

🚨 Don’t worry, this is just a drill! 🚨
Over the next few months, you may see our crews conducting training exercises at an acquired structure in the area of Dahlgren Road and Ernest Ellis Lane.

Training in acquired structures provides our personnel with a valuable opportunity to work in realistic environments that closely simulate actual emergency incidents. This type of hands-on training allows personnel to strengthen critical firefighting, rescue, and incident command skills in ways that cannot be fully replicated in a classroom or traditional training prop. Ultimately, this training helps us better prepare to protect the citizens and visitors of King George County.

Crews will be gaining experience in many areas, including:
• Hose Line Advancement
• Search Operations
• Ladder Placement
• Firefighter Rescue
• Incident Scene Operations

Some training evolutions may also involve the use of theatrical smoke machines to simulate smoke conditions inside the structure. During these drills, “Fire Training Ahead” signs will be posted in the area.

We appreciate the community’s support as we continue training to provide the highest level of service possible.

RA7: Week 12 of 28

Big milestone for Recruit Academy 7! This week, RA7 had their Firefighter 1 burn. This involved Recruits experiencing live fire and conducting five scenarios requiring them to deploy multiple hoselines, search for simulated victims, and deploy ladders for ingress and egress. Check out the video posted on our page for content from the burn.

The rest of the week, the Recruits had a review of cognitive and psychomotor assessments, and on Friday, they took their State written and practical examination.

These recruits are progressing fast and will start their Firefighter 2 program next week.

RA7: Week 11 of 28

This past week, the Recruits put in a lot of hard work over a few hot days. There were three days of full-scale and full-speed multi-company operations to prepare for their Fiefighter 1 burn this coming Tuesday. Recruits went through sets and repetitions on skills and improved very well over the week. Skills that the Recruits completed were:

- Hose line deployment and advancement
- Search and rescue
- Ladder placements
- Forcible entry
- Victim retrieval out of windows and down ladders

The last day of the week covered testing and skills review. These Recruits are advancing very well. Check back in next week to see how Week 12 went!

Shout-out to Buskohl’s Bakery! These amazing students, enrolled in the Life Functions classes at King George High School, have been busy whisking up special treats for the community. Recently, the students took their talents on the road and delivered fresh-baked goods to King George Fire and Rescue.

Using Breville ovens, their classroom transforms into a kitchen where the students practice real-world skills like applied mathematics through measurements, chemical reactions through baking, executive planning through recipes, social development through deliveries, and financial independence through transactions.

It was so kind of these students to share their hard work with our staff. Thank you, Buskohl's Bakery, for thinking of your local first responders!
