***Update 6/5/26 @ 2100 hrs***

Telephone carriers have reported that services for calling 911 have been restored. Preliminary testing has confirmed this. 911 operations have returned to normal.

Thank you to our EMS and Fire Fighters for staffing their halls during this outage.

****************************************
Chippewa County Central Dispatch is aware of an intermittent and widespread phone outage affecting the South and East sides of the county.

Due to this outage, some citizens may experience degraded service or no service at all.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have communicated with the first responder agencies in those locations to assist with emergency notifications and emergency service requests. Should you find yourself unable to access 911, you may go to your nearest Fire/EMS Hall. These locations will be staffed 24/7, and responders will be able to relay your emergency to the dispatch center by radio.

The communications carrier has advised that additional resources are en route to troubleshoot and repair. There has been no ETA provided.

We will update as we receive additional information.

🔥🔥ELEVATED FIRE POTENTIAL 🔥🔥

Yesterday, Chippewa County Central Dispatchers sent 9 different Fire Departments to 3 different fires across our county.

The next couple of days, we will experience similar weather conditions and a very high risk of fires.

With no real chance for rain until Thursday, we are asking residents and vacationers to please be mindful of the conditions and burning restrictions in your area.

Spring is here, and with it comes the increased probability of wildfires.

The MI DNR updates its burn permit management system daily for those who are wondering about burning restrictions in their local area. The link for this site has been provided below.

Please keep in mind that your local municipalities may also have burning restrictions in addition to and above what the MI DNR indicates. We recommend contacting your local township or city offices to acquire that information.

Congratulations to our local AUXCOMM group on a job well done during the Statewide Spring Exercise on May 2.

Our local team, joined by Mackinac County, placed 3rd in scoring statewide in the event.

Our AUXCOMM group is a critical part of our emergency preparedness system and plays a vital role in ensuring communications remain operational on our worst days.

In addition to acting as the backup to the backup, they assist our Emergency Management team and dispatcher center during large-scale events, comms deployments, weather events, and supply deployments.

PLEASE SLOW DOWN - At a recent meeting with our local wrecker companies, the discussion turned to safety. ALL agency representatives at the table voiced concerns over the public's lack of consideration for tow trucks operating on the road.

Did you know?? Michigan's Move Over law includes tow truck operators as emergency service personnel and also considers their properly lighted trucks and equipment as emergency vehicles.

Below are several links that provide specific information on the law and penalties that are associated with it. Penalties are one thing, injuring or killing someone is something else completely. Its not worth it.

Please slow down for our Wrecker Companies and all first responders working on the road.

Stay Safe, Slow Down, and Practice Patience; their lives depend on it.
