Mission Statement: The Brule County Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of Brule County, all of its people including native peoples and those who migrated to the area and to the preservation and education of that history. Bendon Church History Holy Trinity Church formerly of Bendon, SD was built in 1893 by members of the western Bohemian Catholic Union, pioneers who came to this area, homesteaded and wished a house of worship. The Brule County Historical Society members acquired the church from Diocese of Sioux Falls and moved to Kimball on December 17, 1982. The Church had been abandoned for 20 years, but the Society restored the Church to is present condition with donations from people and history buffs. In November of 1983 it was placed on the National Register of Historical Places. The organ came from Dyer Brothers of St. Paul, MN shipping costs in 1904 from St. Paul were $3.70. The Artwork above the alter is the work of a local artist, Alois Krepela who died in 1913 of lead poisoning from holding brushes in his mouth when changing colors.
