The Town of Kimball held a dedication ceremony yesterday for the new Kimball Train Observation Park.
The Town would like to thank Explore McDowell – McDowell County Convention & Visitors Bureau, the National Coal Heritage Area Authority, the McDowell County Commission, and the Kimball War Memorial for their partnership and support in making this project possible.
The new park includes a covered observation platform overlooking the railroad, picnic shelters, and seating for residents and visitors. Located next to the Kimball War Memorial, the park provides another place for visitors to stop in Kimball while highlighting the railroad and coal heritage that have played an important role in our community's history.
While you're here, we invite you to visit our newly repainted caboose, mine car and mine motor, and take some time to tour the Kimball War Memorial building and learn more about the history of our community.
The park, observation platform, and War Memorial are all free to visit and open to the public. We encourage residents, families, railroad enthusiasts, and visitors traveling through our area to stop and spend some time with us.
We would also like to thank everyone who joined us for the dedication and all those who contributed to the completion of the project.
Come visit the Kimball Train Observation Park and Kimball War Memorial and see some of what Kimball has to offer.
