Last night at the Annual Town Meeting and Special Meeting, the proposed bonding plan was defeated by 3 to 1 margin with 49 votes for the plan and approximately 150+ against. We appreciate everyone’s support on this.

Bonding is inevitable. But the plan has to be prudent with only necessary projects that are well thought out and well explained. The Bonding Plan needs to include an analysis on useful life of the projects which will allow the proper bond term to be recommended. Included in this plan must be a future bonding analysis against the multi-year Capital Plan to determine when future bonding would be likely. Informed decisions can be made when a comprehensive plan is presented. Until then, we will pay as you go for the Town’s Capital projects.

The other take away is it’s time to make this Annual Budget Town Meeting into a referendum so all the tools of our right to vote can be utilized. We will make this initiative an important objective of KRTC over this next year. Until then, the next important event is the June 10 BOE School Budget referendum on budget version 2.0, whatever that will be. Tonight there are two BOE meetings to discuss the BOEs next action.

Please remember June 10 School Budget Referendum KES from 6am to 8pm. We need every vote to defeat this tax and spend thinking.
