Public Announcement: Training Exercise

When: Wednesday, October 2nd, 9:00 am

Where: Allen Thornton Vocational School, Hwy 72

What: The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Killen Police Department, Lauderdale County BOE, Lauderdale County EMA, and other first responders, will be conducting a full-scale training exercise on October 2nd, 2024, beginning around 9:00 am. This training exercise will revolve around an active-shooter type scenario.

What to expect: Expect a large law enforcement, fire and EMS presence at Allen Thornton Trade School. There may some minor traffic delays along Hwy 72. Please Use Caution in the area. The training is expected to last approximately 3 hours. There will be no students present at the school during this exercise.

Florence Utilities Electricity Department crews are responding to a power outage affecting customers from Shoals Creek to the Elgin area of Lauderdale County. The cause of the outage is unknown at this time. We appreciate your patience as our crews work as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power.

To report a power outage, call 256-764-4456. Do not call 911 to report a power outage. If you encounter a downed power line or damaged electrical equipment, stay away and treat them as if they are energized.
