Congratulations to all of the winners and published contributors featured in the 2026 edition of Byways: Journal of Arts and Letters!

This annual publication celebrates the outstanding creative work of Central Texas College students through poetry, photography, digital art, painting, sculpture, short stories, music lyrics, and more. The works selected for this year’s issue represent some of the finest examples of student creativity, imagination, and artistic expression across our campus community.

The Hobby Memorial Library and the Byways editorial staff extend sincere appreciation to English professors Chelsea Elkins and Mike Matthews for assisting with the judging process and helping recognize the exceptional talent represented in this year’s journal. We also thank the Central Texas College Marketing team for their support with the final journal design and for showcasing this year’s winners.

To every student who submitted work: thank you for sharing your creativity and voice with the CTC community. We encourage you to continue pursuing your artistic and literary endeavors.

Scotland’s Highland Games season begins in May, bringing centuries of Scottish tradition, athletic competition, music, and cultural celebration to life. Originally gatherings of Scottish clans, the Highland Games featured tests of strength, skill, and endurance, along with bagpipes, dancing, and storytelling traditions that continue today.

To celebrate the start of the Highland Games, Hobby Memorial Library has created a display featuring books on Scottish history, culture, folklore, traditions, and the Highland Games themselves.

Alongside our print display, we also have a selection of eBooks available through the library’s online catalog that can be read from home or anywhere with your CTC library access.

Explore Scotland’s rich heritage and traditions with us this month at the library!

Today is National Library Workers Day—a time to recognize the people who keep the library running and support your success every day.

Library workers include librarians, staff, and student employees who:
✔ connect you with the right resources
✔ support your research and assignments
✔ provide services that help you succeed

This day was established in 2003 to honor the dedication, expertise, and impact of all library workers—and to advocate for the value of their work.

Take a moment to thank the people who help make your academic journey a little easier.

✨ Find Your Joy in the support behind your success.
