Thursday Cavalry Demonstrations at the Stables:
We conduct our world-renowned cavalry demonstrations every Thursday at 10am at our arena, if we cannot put it on due to weather or mission requirements we will announce it on this page as soon as possible. The demonstrations are free to attend and we welcome the public, families, and Soldiers to come see what we do. Feel free to call ahead and check our schedule at (254) 287-2229 or (254) 404-5193 or check this page for the latest updates! Do you have what it takes to be a HCD Trooper? It's hard work, just ask any of our current Troopers, but we do bring in new Troopers every quarter and can accept any active-duty U.S. Army Soldier stationed at Fort Cavazos. We do not require prior horse or ranch experience and any MOS is allowed to try out. Must be in good standing with your unit (no adverse actions pending), passing PT score, and Brigade Sergeant Major must sign off on the packet. Come by our stables for a registration packet or more information about joining the HCD team! Instagram: horsecavalrydetachment

Latte was up to Christmas mischief again! 🎄✨
This time he zoomed through the barn like a sneaky little Elf on the Shelf—leaving teeny tiny sparkly hoofprints behind him! Keep your eyes open… you never know where he’ll pop up next!

On a chilly December morning at the 1st Cav Horse Detachment, Santa was conducting his final checks before delivering gifts to the troopers. The air was crisp, the barns were cozy, and the horses stomped their hooves excitedly, ready for Christmas fun. Santa walked down the line with a smile, making sure the sleigh sparkled and every bridle and saddle was just right. The sleigh was polished, the reins were shining… but one mount was missing.

“Dasher, Dancer, Prancer… wait—where’s the last one?!”

Latte was last seen trotting through the morning frost, his mane bouncing and his tail swishing as he set off on a tiny Christmas quest of his own. Santa’s counting on everyone to help spot his wandering helper!!!

✨ Be on the lookout each day for Latte…the missing Christmas horse. 🐴🎄
