We mourn this loss for our district and our city. We pray for this family who has lived their lives in service to our city. We will miss you, John Lewis, and we will be here for your girls. Once a Bulldog, Always a Bulldog.
With the heaviest hearts, Kilgore ISD mourns the passing of one of our own, John Lewis, CTE Manufacturing and Carpentry Teacher at Kilgore High School.
John was much more than an educator. He was a mentor, a role model, and a dedicated Bulldog who made a lasting impact on the lives of his students. Even as he courageously battled cancer, his commitment to his students never wavered. His legacy extends far beyond the skills he taught and the projects his students created. It lives on in the lessons of hard work, perseverance, and determination he instilled in those fortunate enough to learn from him.
This loss is deeply personal to our entire Bulldog family. John and his wife, Misty, both began their journeys as Kilgore High School students, and their family has remained an important part of Kilgore ISD. Misty serves as our Director of Career and Technical Education, their daughters, Kyleigh, a KHS graduate, and Alyssa, a current KHS student, continue that proud Bulldog tradition.
Our hearts are broken, and we extend our deepest condolences, love, and support to Misty, Kyleigh, Alyssa, and all who knew and loved John. We ask our Bulldog community to keep the Lewis family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog. John's impact on Kilgore ISD will not be forgotten, and he will be deeply missed.
Counselors will be available to support students and staff as we navigate this loss together.
