September is National Preparedness Month.
Storms can happen any time of year, and the best time to prepare is before severe weather is in the forecast. As we recognize National Preparedness Month, take a few minutes this week to build or refresh your emergency kit. Include essentials like bottled water, nonperishable food, flashlights, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, medications, phone chargers and important documents.

The community is invited to gather in remembrance and reflection of the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on Friday, Sept. 11, at 9:30 a.m. at the Spring Park gazebo in Green Cove Springs. This is a joint effort between Clay County Fire Rescue, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and other Clay County agencies.
During the ceremony, the names of the more than 400 firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day will be read.
Local first responders from agencies across the area will participate in an Honor March through downtown Green Cove Springs, which will end at the ceremony.
Honor March viewing – You can view the march along Palmetto Avenue and Walnut Street in Green Cove Springs. The march will start at 9:15 and end at the ceremony in Spring Park.
Ceremony – 9:30, Spring Park gazebo, Green Cove Springs. There will be chairs set up, but you’re welcome to bring your own.
The community is invited to remember, honor, and never forget.

Clay Electric has seen a record number of trees dying due to ongoing drought conditions throughout the service area.

This poses a serious threat to our goal of providing members with reliable power. Please remember:

· Vegetation management crews focus on minimizing contact between the trees and power lines.

· The crews only trim trees that are adjacent to our power lines.

· In improved areas such as yards, we will clean up trimmed debris, but dead trees will be cut into manageable pieces and left at the base of the tree.

· In un-improved areas such as woods or large fields, crews will cut dead trees into manageable lengths and leave them on site.

Congratulations to these organizations that received grants in August from our Operation Round Up program! In all, 11 organizations were selected by the Clay Electric Foundation Board of Directors to receive $98,800 in funding based on a rigorous application process that’s done every month.

Today is Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day, a chance to recognize everyone who maintains the electric system and restores power when outages occur.

The work can be dangerous, and Florida weather rarely makes it easier. We’re grateful to those who take it on every day, many of whom we know personally.

The observance was established by the Florida House of Representatives in 2012 in memory of Marc Moore, a Lakeland Electric employee who lost his life on the job in 2002.

Thank you for your courage and willingness to answer the call whenever you’re needed.

If you are aware of an inoperative or malfunctioning outdoor light on Clay Electric Cooperative’s lines, call 1-800-224-4917 to report the problem; login to MyClayElectric, click Submit an Inquiry, then Other Issues/General Inquiry, then Outdoor Light Problem; or email [email protected] to report the problem.
When reporting the problem, you will need to provide the following information so the co-op can make the appropriate repair, and contact you should there be any questions:
(1) Specific street address where the outdoor light is located
(2) A description of where the outdoor light is located on the property
(3) A description of the nature of the malfunction or failure of illumination of the outdoor light
(4) Sufficient contact information, including your name, address, telephone number, and account number (if a Clay Electric Cooperative member)
