Youth Tour students are on the final day of their weeklong trip to Washington, D.C., and the surrounding area.

Here are a few highlights from the trip, which included stops at Arlington National Cemetery, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Mount Vernon, the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, the World War II Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial, among others.

Congratulations again to Clay Electric’s Kaleena Feng of Oakleaf High School, who was named Florida’s 2026 Youth Leadership Council representative. Her selection marks the third year in a row that a Clay Electric-sponsored student has earned the honor.

Shoutout as well to FECA-sponsored student Carsen Thomas of Union County High School, whose family is served by Clay Electric. Carsen was named runner-up.

The calendar says summer starts Sunday. The weather says it showed up early.

Many parts of our service area are under a Heat Advisory today, with heat index values making it feel well above 100 degrees.

It’s sweltering out there, so please take it seriously. Drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, limit strenuous outdoor activity when possible, and check on children, older neighbors and pets.

Stay safe and stay cool.

We’ll let Kaleena make the announcement... 🎤

Congratulations to Kaleena Feng of Oakleaf High School, who was selected as Florida’s 2026 Youth Leadership Council representative during this year’s Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

Kaleena was sponsored by Clay Electric for the trip, and her selection marks the third year in a row, and the fifth time in the past decade, that a Clay Electric-sponsored student has earned this honor.

As Florida’s YLC delegate, she’ll take part in a leadership development program focused on public speaking, cooperative education and networking with other student leaders from across the country.

Our Youth Tour students began their week with an early flight out of Jacksonville and immediately hit the ground running in Washington, D.C.

Their first stops included the Jefferson Memorial, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Washington Monument, marking the beginning of a week designed to connect students with the institutions of our nation’s capital.

Youth Tour brings students sponsored by electric cooperatives across the country together for a weeklong leadership experience focused on history, government, public service and the co-op difference.

The Co-op Man is back. 🚨🛻🔧

Clay Electric has another round of retired fleet vehicles and equipment up for auction through J.J. Kane.

This lineup includes several Ford F-150 pickups, a Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-550 cab and chassis trucks and bucket trucks. There are 13 vehicles in total up for bid.

Items are located in Ocala, and bidding closes June 23 or June 24, depending on the listing.

These are former fleet vehicles, so review the full details, mileage and condition notes before bidding. Some are ready to work. Some may need work. All have stories.

The Florida heat is about to get serious.

An increased risk of extreme heat is forecast across much of the state next week and into next weekend. Heat index values could climb above 105 degrees, with unusually warm nights offering little relief.

Take precautions before heading outside:

• Drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks.
• Limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
• Never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle.

At home, make sure your air-conditioning filter is clean and use ceiling fans in occupied rooms to help you feel cooler. Keep an eye on local forecasts and take the heat seriously.

Storm prep doesn’t need to wait.

Hurricane season is here, and eligible storm-prep supplies are sales-tax exempt year-round in Florida.

Many items that used to be part of temporary sales tax holidays are now always exempt, including many batteries, portable gas cans, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, waterproof tarps and portable generators rated 10,000 running watts or less.

Stock up now, while shelves are full and the weather is quiet.
