Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives, the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators have identified human remains found in September 1999 in a liveaboard boat off Key West as those of 56-year-old Cumie Doylene McCutcheon.

“I want to thank the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and the FDLE for their hard work on this case and providing closure to this family,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay.

The Sheriff’s Office, the Medical Examiner, and the FDLE made the identification by working together and using modern DNA technology.

The Sheriff’s Office began investigating the remains of an unidentified white female known only as “Cinnamon,” who was located aboard a liveaboard vessel near the Fleming Key/Garrison Bight mooring field off Key West. Investigators were unable to identify the remains at the time the investigation began.

In 2026, the FDLE notified the Sheriff’s Office that DNA research indicated the remains were of McCutcheon. A DNA comparison made with McCutheon’s son subsequently confirmed the identification.
